    Travel / Tourism
Toyama Pref. Nakanikawaguntateyamamachi Ashikuraji Buna Slope Foreign Forest
This cable car was once used to carry the materials used to build Kurobe Dam. Currently, it serves as a means of transportation between Tateyama Station and Bijodaira Station on the Kurobe Alpen Route. The cable car, which acts as the entrance to the Alpen Route, takes seven minutes to complete the 1.3 kilometer-long journey 500 meters up the mountain's surface. Passengers can enjoy watching the appearance of the forest dynamically change as the car climbs higher and higher up the mountain. In some places you can see pillar-like formations of exposed rock known as columnar jointing. Sightseeing information is broadcast on the intercom during the ride, which increases passengers' excitement for the upcoming parts of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpen Route.

Toyama Areas

around-area-map

Toyama is one of the three prefectures that house the Japanese Alps, with its southern and eastern borders comprising one long stretch of mountains, out of which the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is forged. While traditional crafts fill the northern coastal cities of Toyama and Takaoka, thatched roof houses offer unrivalled views against a backdrop of fantastic scenery at Gokayama in the mountainous area in the south of the prefecture.
