Toyama Pref. Takaokashi Kojou 1-1 inside the old castle park
This shrine is located inside of Takaoka Kojo Park. Thought to have been built in the Nara period or earlier, this ancient and honorable shrine is the only shrine in Etchu Province selected as a Myojin Taisha, the highest rank of shrine in the Engi-Shiki. The shrine venerates Ninigi-no-mikoto, said to grant blessings of bumper crops and prosperity in business. 200,000 people visit the shrine each year during their annual new year's day festival. Imizu Saryo, a cafe area added during renovations of the shrine's event hall, is a place to enjoy the seasonal scenery along with exclusive items such as their original blended coffee, herb tea, Futan matcha tea au lait, and more.

"This shrine located in the city center of Toyama City was highly revered by generations of the Maeda clan, the lords of Toyama Castle. Beloved by locals with the nickname ""Sanno-san,"" the shrine's primary enshrined deities, Oyamakui-no-kami and Onamuchi-no-kami, are worshiped as gods of matrimony. They are also said to grant prayers for things including success in business, safe childbirth, and passing exams and interviews. Every May 30th, the shrine sees huge crowds at its annual spring festival, the Sanno Matsuri, one of the biggest festivals in Toyama Prefecture. The shrine also hosts a number of other seasonal festivals and other events, including the Sannou-kou, a tranquil and harmonious Buddhist lecture group. "

The Etchu Ichinomiya Takase-jinja Shrine has a long history, even recorded in documents from the year 680. The god worshipped there, Okuninushi-no-Mikoto (Ohonamuchi), is a god of prosperity and relationships, and is adored by many. There is a lot to see, including treasure displays, the water purification fountain, tea brushes, and the Koreiden Mausoleum designated as a Cultural Property. Approximately 15 minutes by car via Tonami Interchange on the Hokuriku Expressway.

This shrine is a 10-minute walk from Toyama Chihou Railway Iwakuraji Station and a 15-minute drive from either Tateyama Interchange. or Toyama Interchange. Oyama Shrine is comprised of three different shrines; Minehonsha (the main shrine), Kiganden, and Maedateshadan. This shrine, Maedateshadan, is the closest of the three to the lowland. It gets its name from the fact that it stands in front of Mt. Tateyama. Every autumn, the shrine hosts the Tateyama Fire Festival where anyone can try walking across a bed of burning coals on their bare feet.

This ancient shrine is believed to date back to 747. It venerates the Emperor Ojin, and enshrines the Emperor Nintoku. It is still revered as a local shrine to this day. The shrine grounds hold monuments engraved with poems from Otomo no Yakamochi, and from Basho.

A shrine in Kushita, Imizu. The shrine was founded by Takeuchi no Sukune who came to the region from the Yamato Imperial Court. Kusinadahime and Susanoo-no-Mikoto are the enshrined deities. Located on the ground is the large Meotosugi cedar tree which splits in two from the stump and embodies the divine virtues of marriage and matrimonial happiness. Also present is the Fumiya Otomo Stained Glass Museum.

The shrine is located in the Kutugara Prefectural Park in Oyabe City and is famous as the place where Minamoto no Yoshinaka prayed for victory in battle. Reservations are required to visit the treasure hall, so be sure to inquire.

Toyama Areas

around-area-map

Toyama is one of the three prefectures that house the Japanese Alps, with its southern and eastern borders comprising one long stretch of mountains, out of which the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is forged. While traditional crafts fill the northern coastal cities of Toyama and Takaoka, thatched roof houses offer unrivalled views against a backdrop of fantastic scenery at Gokayama in the mountainous area in the south of the prefecture.
