This rapidly-growing confectionary established in 1963 has multiple stores in Toyama Prefecture and Ishikawa Prefecture. This store, their flagship location, sits at the Sakaemachi crossing north of Fujikoshi Station. Their broad selection ranges from western sweets such as tarts and donuts to Japanese sweets including dorayaki (adzuki bean pancakes). Especially notable is their original Kankontan sweet, a popular Toyama souvenir that has won numerous awards at the National Confectionary Expo. Some of their many other popular creations include their Toyaman pastries, featuring sarashian sweat bean paste wrapped with pie crust, as well as their Kogyoku Ringo (Jonathan) Apple Pies.

    Toyama Pref. Himishi Honmachi 13-10
"This Japanese pub, the sister company of the Nadaraso guesthouse, offers cuisine made with fresh ingredients from Toyama Bay. Their menu changes based on the catch of the day. Located by Himi City Museum on National Route 415, their chefs can prepare food that matches the customer's requests and their budget, even cuisines that are not on the menu. The pub is open for lunch and for dinner. During lunch service, they offer ""Tamate box"" set meals that change each day and are popular with female customers. During dinner service, they offer a range of flame-broiled dishes and appetizers that make them a great place for casual parties."

    Toyama Pref. Takaokashi Akasofu 433
This revolving sushi restaurant is located near Tonogakuchi Ryokuchi in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture. The restaurant maintains freshness by keeping live seafood shipped straight from Toyama Prefecture's Himi Port and Ishikawa Prefecture's Kanazawa Port, two of the country's best fishing ports, in a fish tank in the kitchen. The restaurant takes pride in its firm, fresh sushi ingredients. Its most popular options are its three-piece and six-piece sets, which each feature a selection of the most popular sushi ingredients, including blue fin tuna. Their extra special lunches, of which only 20 are served each day, feature 11 pieces of sushi made with the restaurant's finest ingredients. Each is served with arajiru, a soup made from fish scraps.

  • Unazuki Station Kissa (food court)
    Gourmet / Alcohol
Toyama Pref. Kurobeshi Kurobekyoukokuguchi 11 within Unazuki station premises
"This food court is located inside of the Kurobe Gorge Railway's Unazuki Station. Being located immediately outside of the ticket gate means that passengers can stop by for a snack while waiting on their trolley car. Their soft-serve ice cream, popular for its rich flavor and for melting in your mouth at just the right speed, comes in two varieties: vanilla and matcha green tea. We also recommend Unazuki Beer, a local craft beer made with two-row malt grown in Kurobe and their ""Meisui Hot Coffee"" made with Kurobe's famously great-tasting water. The food court also offers light fare such as their nikumaki dogs (bacon-wrapped rice on a stick) and their trolley car nikuman (meat buns), as well as bento boxes. "

"This plantation cafe is a three-minute drive from Noetsu Expressway's Fukuoka Interchange. Located inside of a renovated old Japanese-style house, the cafe's interior has a distinct sense of warmth and nostalgia. Part of Japan's so-called sixth industrialization, the cafe offers items made with plentiful amounts of fresh seasonal ingredients raised on the premises. Some of their most popular items include their ""Choja dango"" dumplings, which are available in a variety of flavors including sweet soy sauce, strained adzuki bean paste, mayonnaise, and cream cheese, as well as their limited edition parfaits made with copious amounts of seasonal fruit."

  • Sasaki Chitosedo
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Toyama Pref. Toyamashi Jouhokumachi 9-11
"This confectionary shop is located near the Johokumachi crossing on Prefectural Route 30. Professing a creed of ""preserving traditions while exploring new delicious tastes,"" the shop has kept alive the methods and flavors passed down since its founding. The shop is popular for the tastes it has refined since opening in 1951 as well as for its untiring spirit of enquiry. Each of their naturally-flavored sweets is made without additives, providing customers with peace of mind. Some of their notable products include their coffee-flavored Mikasayama, inspired by a conversation with family members, and their Nama Dorayaki, created based on interactions with customers. The fluffy cake and the sweetness created by the homemade adzuki bean paste make each of these treats highly addictive."

At this restaurant on the Shogawa River in the World Heritage Suganuma Gassho-zukuri Village, guests dine on traditional Gokayama cuisine in a gassho-zukuri steep-roofed house built about 200 years ago surrounded by the seasons. Take off your shoes as you enter to use their table or tatami mat floor seating. They have a traditional irori hearth, and time seems to pass slowly like long ago. This shop combines the beauty of the changing seasons, and a tradition of flavor passed down since ages past. The Kurobe, a town famous for clean water, sweets made here are the products of skilled craftsmen. We highly recommend the Kazumi Apple Pie, made with apples from Uozu City's Kazumino district spreading apple orchards, and filled with elegant sweetness and a delicate sourness. They also offer dorayaki buns, gelatin desserts, walnut manju buns, and more, all made with select ingredients.

Their meals make use of Shinminato's rich seafood like crab, glass shrimp, and firefly squid, with their ""Kisetsu no OO Zukushi"" (Seasonal OO Variety). They're perfect for events like engagement parties, memorial services, and client entertainment."

Toyama Areas

around-area-map

Toyama is one of the three prefectures that house the Japanese Alps, with its southern and eastern borders comprising one long stretch of mountains, out of which the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is forged. While traditional crafts fill the northern coastal cities of Toyama and Takaoka, thatched roof houses offer unrivalled views against a backdrop of fantastic scenery at Gokayama in the mountainous area in the south of the prefecture.
