This maintained walking trail follows the Lake Kurobe shore from the Kampa Valley suspension bridge. It runs through a beech and birch forest, and with little elevation difference it's even easy for children to walk. There are many sights to see including cold springs, and alpine plants, so it's perfect to soak in the refreshing forest ambience. It's about a one hour walk if you turn back in front of Lodge Kuroyon.

"Located at the end of a 30-minute walk from the final stop on the Kurobe Gorge Railway, Keyakidaira Station, Sarutobi Gorge (also called Keiun Gorge) is a registered National Natural Monument along with Mt. Okukane. The river is narrow, and long ago monkeys used to leap across the gorge, earning it the name (Sarutobi means ""monkey leaping""). The contrast between the river's flow and the natural surroundings is stunning."

The forest around Bijyodaira is dotted with broadleaf forests and huge, several hundred year old Tateyama cedar trees, and has been selected as one of the 100 best forests for forest bathing. It takes 1 hour and 50 minutes.

"This promenade was provided on the road from Kurobe Gorge Railway's Unazuki Station to Unazuki Dam, utilizing the track bed of a former Torokko tram, and is about one km long one way. The ""Shin Yamabiko Bridge"" is a popular photo spot, as you can see the Torokko trains running from the bridge."

Toyama Areas

Toyama is one of the three prefectures that house the Japanese Alps, with its southern and eastern borders comprising one long stretch of mountains, out of which the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is forged. While traditional crafts fill the northern coastal cities of Toyama and Takaoka, thatched roof houses offer unrivalled views against a backdrop of fantastic scenery at Gokayama in the mountainous area in the south of the prefecture.
