You’ll find this roadside station in Tokamachi City, Niigata Prefecture along National Route 252 nestled within an idyllic, seemingly satoyama (village-vicinity mountain) landscape. There’s a restaurant that serves popular homecooked local cuisine, and the building also has a direct sales store where you can purchase vegetables, local soba, Senda Rice, folk crafts, and more. You can visit the prefecture’s largest snow cavern as well, and there’s a walking trail with a suspension bridge too. Seasonal events are held throughout the year.

    Nigata Pref. Uonumashi Yoshida 1148
You’ll find this roadside station along the Koide-Okutadami Line of Prefectural Route 50 in Yoshida, Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture. Besides providing tourism information, there’s also the adjoining “Miyuki no Sato” facility that contains a restaurant and specialty product shop. The restaurant serves local cuisine that makes generous use of local Uonuma ingredients; the set meals and rice balls all use Koshihikari rice. The Kenchin ramen with full of toppings is another popular option. The shop sells rice, local sake, seasonal produce, and processed marine products.

Roadside Station Minamiuonuma Yukiakari is one of snow country Minamiuonuma, and it is composed of three facilities: Imaizumi Memorial Hall, Shiki Ajiwai-kan, and Ikoi-no-hiroba Plaza, with paintings and artworks by famous artists, foreign and abroad, but particularly with works by Shiko Munanaka. In the food court, you can partake of some dishes fresh cooked up with Uonuma’s Koshihikari rice piled high in a rice bowl. Three minutes by car via Shiozawaishida Interchange on the Kanetsu Expressway.

There are a restaurant, a shop selling local fresh produce and a big park. As we went here in winter, with lots of snow, we didn't go to the park area. Just walk around in the shop, but since it's...

This tourist rest stop located at the base of Okutadami Dam serves as a hub for sightseeing in the Okutadami and Oze area and also offers local specialties and other products. The onsite restaurant has a close-up view of Okutadami Dam, which was the setting of the movie Whiteout. The terminal is popular for its great views of beautiful autumn foliage in the fall and of fresh greenery and Okutadami's natural splendor in the summer. Our recommended souvenirs are the terminal's Okutadami no Tsukudani (a simmered seafood preserve) and its original Ao Nanban Misokko Kyuri pickled cucumbers.

Inside the spacious Japanese style building you'll find all sorts of local goods including candy, soba, and pickled vegetables as well as koshihikari rice from Minamiuonuma and Echigo sake wine, vegetables, and seafood straight from the bay.
