Street Spots in Myoko / Joetsu Area

  • Takada Gangi Street
    Travel / Tourism
Nigata Pref. Jouetsushi (Old Takada castle)
The street resembles an arcade with its wooden eaves constructed over the pavement so that people can walk freely even at times of heavy snow. The total length of this covered walkway in the Takada region is 16 kilometers, the longest such covered street in Japan. It’s a sight characteristic of the many narrow, old wooden townhouses still remaining in Takada and the place retains the atmosphere of the old castle town. There are many tourist facilities among the old townhouses here so visitors can enjoy a good walk. The nearest station is Takada Station.
