    This convention center complex is about a 20-minute walk from JR Niigata Station and is comprised of two buildings: the Niigata Convention Center with exhibition halls and meeting rooms and Bandaijima Building with a hotel. From meetings to parties to lodging everything can be conveniently served by this one space. On the fifth floor of the Bandaijima Building is the Niigata Bandaijima Art Museum focusing on modern art and on the 31st floor is the Befco Bakauke Observation Room from which you can the Sea of Japan, Sado Island, and the Gozu Mountain Range.

    An aquarium standing along the coast in Nishifunami Town, Chuo Ward, Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture. The Niigata City Aquarium reopened after major renovations in 2013. The aquarium keeps and displays some 20 thousand sea creatures spanning around 500 species. Some of the aquarium’s many highlights include a giant aquarium exhibit modeled after the natural environment of the Sea of Japan, a “marine tunnel” which will make you feel like you’re walking around on the bottom of the ocean, and exhibits introducing the creatures that live in the Shinano River. The aquarium also has popular exhibits presenting waterfront animals such as beavers, river otters, seals, sea otters, and penguins. Exciting dolphin shows are held daily.

At the KiraKira Restaurant and Market you can buy and eat fresh foods as well as check out the changing seasonal plants and flowers in the large KiraKira Garden.

Located directly next to the Niigata Hakusan-jinja Shrine, it is used as a place of rest and relaxation by worshippers. Visitors can walk down the “Yasuragitei” embankment along the Shinanogawa River and pass “Ryutopia,” the Niigata City Performing Arts Center that features a rooftop park.

    A long-standing sushi restaurant situated along Honcho-dori Avenue in Chuo Ward, Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture. The shop was opened in the early Showa period by the first owner, who sought to bring Tokyo-style raw sushi to Niigata. Today, Sushi Yasu continues to preserve the traditional tastes and techniques of that time. The restaurant uses only fresh, natural ingredients in its sushi, including seasonal local fish. Popular menu items including the “kiwami,” a set of 10 pieces of sushi, dashi-maki-tamago rolled omelet, and bowl of soup, the lunch chirashi-zushi; and the homemade castella Tamago-yaki omelet—only a small number of which are offered each day. The restaurant only has eight counter seats and “koagari” raised tatami mat dining area with a single table. Sushi Yasu is popular not only with locals but also tourists from within the prefecture and beyond.

The bar’s meat and fish dishes fried on lava stone in the open kitchen visible from the customer tables are particularly popular. Kazahana’s sashimi and abalone steak are also well-reviewed and go well with the bar’s selection of local sakes. Kazahana has a casual, Western-style atmosphere that makes it easy even for customers on their own to come in.

    A free observation room situated on the 31st floor of the Hotel Nikko Niigata inside the Toki Messe convention center, Chuo Ward, Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture. From here at about 125 meters above ground, views can be had as far as the Gozu Mountains and Sado Island floating in the Sea of Japan, as well as of the city of Niigata and Shinano River. After sun set the spectacular night view shimmers to life making it a popular place for dating couples. There is also a lounge where meals can be enjoyed while looking out over the glorious views, and an area selling souvenirs. Kuriyamabeika Co., Ltd, otherwise known as Befco, sponsors the observation room, known as ‘Bakauke’ (one of their products).

    Free admission and nice views of beautiful Niigata. You can see the it even in the rest room. At the coofee shop, try ice cream with rice cracker toppings.
