    A roadside station situated along National Route 116 in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. The facility has a route information terminal useable 24 hours a day, community center, art zone consisting of two art museums, and more. The Motenashiya community center, a former old private home moved to the site, serves local dishes such as dango-jiru soup and Ryokan musubi rice balls. There’s also a shop corner selling local specialty and agricultural products. The Ryokan no Sato Art Museum presents calligraphy and poems created by Edo period Zen priest, poet, and calligrapher Ryokan as well as his apprentice Teishinni. The Kikumori Memorial Museum displays sculptures and paintings gathered by Yoshio Kikumori.

    新幹線長岡駅出口のちょっと先にあるの良寛様の像のイメージでいたが、最近忘れた日本様式家屋内等、とても懐かしく感じる。中は思ったよりきれい。

    A roadside station standing along National Route 17 in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. The facility has a rest area, route information service, Agricultural Village community center, and more. The centerpiece of the Agricultural Village is the direct sales corner selling vegetables lovingly picked just that morning at local farms. In addition to seasonal vegetables, you can also find edible wild plants picked locally in spring. Other items for sale include Uonuma koshihikari rice, handmade miso, kon’nyaku jelly, snacks, local sakes, and regional crafts. The building also has a light meal space serving ramen, crepes, and other items.

    地場産のお菓子、惣菜、野菜、漬物が充実しています。そこでしか買えないものがあるって、やはり行って楽しいです。また、奥に小さいスペースがあり、そこでは無料の味噌汁、漬物の試食コーナーがありました。

    A roadside station located in Nishiyama Town, Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture built on the site of an elementary school connected to former Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka. The facility has a rest space, corner providing area tourist and event information, free drink service, park, and adjoining Kakuei Tanaka Memorial Museum. The Saiyu-kan building, designed to serve as a space for the improvement of Japan-China relations and exchange between the two countries, incorporates elements of traditional Chinese palace architecture. Visitors are free to stroll around the Saiyu-en Chinese-style garden. There’s also a multipurpose hall used for events, concerts, and lectures.

    田中角栄さんの実家が西山に有ったのは知ってますが、新潟柏崎市、西山町に、中国の様な建物? 不釣合い。孫悟空をあしらった石像。 道の駅としても、記念館としても、もっと充実した内容が欲しい場所です。 良いこと、悪いこと有った、元総理大臣ですが、日本の都市計画、新幹線、道路網整備は、田中角栄さん抜きでは現在が無かったと思います。

    A roadside station on National Route 252 in Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture. It is a fairly small place but does have information on current traffic conditions, a souvenir shop, a shop that sells seasonal wild plants and vegetables, and an outlet which serves snacks, etc. The roadside station, built out of wood, has a bright, spacious atmosphere to it. At the food counter you can try some local food such as Atka mackerel sushi wrapped in bamboo leaves, char (type of trout) pressed sushi, and oboro tofu, and some sweet foods too, including homemade cakes and soft ice-cream.

    Located in Niwazuki, Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture, this roadside station is built close to Yagigahana, a well-known scenic spot. The large building with red roof is hard to miss. The farmer’s market inside sells local fruits and vegetables, other food stuff, and souvenirs etc. The farm restaurant, where you can enjoy local dishes made with local ingredients, handmade soba noodles, and an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet (weekends only), is very popular. You can also visit the birthplace and memorial museum of Tetsuji Morohashi who compiled Dai Kanwa jiten (The Great Chinese-Japanese Dictionary). There is an admission fee for entry into the museum’s exhibition room.

There are plenty of facilities within the onsen such as outdoor baths that overlook the city area, spacious indoor baths, a restaurant with rest area which serves full course meals, and a movie room which shows four films every day. The roadside station itself has a traffic information terminal, shops, and a play area for children, making it a great place to stop and rest on a drive.

    Mitsumata Roadside Station, located on National Route 17 in Yuzawa Town, Minamiuonuma County, Niigata Prefecture, is a charming building based on the style of an inn from the Edo period. There is a traffic information terminal, a rest area, a small farmer’s market, restaurant and shop. The restaurant offers set meals made with local Niigata ingredients, and noodles. Their Kenchin Motsu soup made with Waton Mocha-buta Pork is very popular. There is also a cafe which serves organic home-roasted coffee and pancakes, a shop which sells outdoor goods, a small shop which sells specialty products, and a free foot bath.

    A roadside station on National Route 352 in Izumozaki Town, Mishima County, Niigata Prefecture. The well-known tourist spot of Izumozaki prospered as a harbor town with the off loading of Sado gold and silver, it was also under the direct control of the shogunate during the Edo period. In addition to the information terminal, the roadside station also has a tourist information center that sells local marine products and a restaurant where you can enjoy fresh fish dishes while looking out over the Sea of Japan. Visitors will also find the Tenryo Izumozaki Period Museum which introduces the history of Izumozaki, and the Izumozaki Oil Memorial Museum. The tourist spot of Yunagi Bridge is famous for its beautiful sunsets.

    休憩をしようと寄ってお土産屋さんで一休み 自販機で飲み物を買おうと思ったら資料館を発見しました。 せっかく来たのだから有料でしたが見学しました。 中に入ってみたら資料館は奥にあるんですが、まず目についたのが 可愛らしい手作り雑貨があって資料館を見ないで終わっちゃいました。 もっと入りやすい感じならいいんですけどね

Shibata City has many famous places to see the cherry blossom, and in the spring time the cherry trees bloom inside the roadside station itself giving it the nickname Sakura no Sato, or cherry blossom village. The typically Japanese-styled building has all the facilities you’d expect from a roadside station such as tourist information and a rest area, etc. Local specialty products such as local sake are sold here in the Fureai Center Sakura-kan. With a restaurant and a small farmer’s market the place is frequented by many tourists.

With free parking and toilet facilities available 24 hours a day, it is a convenient place to stop off for a break on your way home late at night or when returning from a day’s sightseeing. The cafe inside has a number of popular dishes including the local traditional dishes of Noppe and Tsumari soba, as well as Tsumari pork made with the well-known branded pork. The roadside station also has plenty of places to buy some local specialties such as at Echigo-Tsumari Omiyage-kan where visitors can pick up some classic Niigata souvenirs like soba, Koshihikari rice, and sasa dango (dumplings wrapped in bamboo grass).

    A roadside station on National Route 113 in Sekikawa Village, Iwafune County, Niigata Prefecture. As well as the tourist information center, there is a day spa, the Sekikawa History and Road Museum which introduces the history of Sekikawa Village, and a multipurpose sports facility. The local cultural exchange facility, Chigura, which sells local products, has a demonstration area where cat lovers can see how the popular folk craft Neko Chigura (a cat house made of straw) is made. With a restaurant offering western cuisine made with the local brand pork Asahi Pork, and a small farmer’s market selling agricultural produce, this roadside station is a popular spot which attracts lots of tourists.

    東北で一番好きな道の駅です。 きれいな温泉が併設されており、外に足湯もあります。 遅い時間まで利用可能で疲れた身体をいやすのに最適でした。

    A roadside station on National Route 403 in Yasuzuka Ward, Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture. In the Yukidaruma Bussan Kan (Snowman Product Hall) there is not only an information terminal and rest area but also an area which sells local products such as local vegetables and rice, sasa dango (dumplings wrapped in bamboo grass), and snow aged sake. Homemade gelato and freshly ground coffee are popular at the snack corner. There is also a soba restaurant which serves popular dishes like soba topped with grated hot daikon (radish), and other soba dishes made with buckwheat from Joetsu City. It’s quite an unusual spot because it uses a snow room for storage and cooling so visitors can see snow even during the summer.

    Aga-no-Sato is a roadside station on National Route 49 in Aga Town, Higashikanbara County, Niigata Prefecture. The roadside station sits in a location overlooking the Agano River, beautiful to look at all year round. The roadside station boasts the largest fish market this side of the Sea of Japan with a whole array of seafood delicacies such as fresh seafood from the Sea of Japan, pickled fish, and shiokara (salted fish guts). Set meals, rice bowls and soba can all be enjoyed at the restaurant which uses the specialty Koshihikari rice from Aga Town cooked with fresh, local water. There is a tourist information terminal and a souvenir shop selling local agricultural produce, folk crafts, and local sake. The roadside station is also a departure point for boat trips down the Agano River.

There is a shop which sells specialty products from both Niigata and Toyama including the local specialty mozuku (a kind of seaweed) soba, the fermented chili paste, kanzuri, and local sake. The restaurant’s signature dish is the cod soup set meal made with lots of cod offal.

    The Kamuri Niitsu Roadside Station is located close to the National Route 460 in Akiha Ward, Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture, and is operated by Niigata City and JA Niitsu Satsuki. It opened as a part of Niitsu City Flower Comprehensive Center utilizing the local characteristics of horticultural production. It has an outdoor shop and a large glass greenhouse and sells about 2,000 kinds of potted plants, flowers and trees, seedlings, decorative plants, saplings, and bonsai trees etc. at all times. Events with seasonal flowers as their theme are also held from time to time. There is also a place in the roadside station which sells local agricultural produce and local specialty products.

    農道のど真ん中みたいなところにあり、なんでこんなところに?と思ってしまいます。また、施設も道の駅というより園芸センターのようです。道の駅としたら期待外れですが、園芸センターとしてはなかなか充実していますので、園芸好きの方にはお勧めです。

It not only has information on the roads and surrounding area but also serves as a base for tourism in the area. At the restaurant which serves light meals such as soba and udon, cooking events are held using local buckwheat flour and rice flour. There is also a souvenir shop, a free foot bath and a play park for children, making it an ideal place to use for a quick shop on your way home or for a rest.

    3連休を使って行ってきました。道の駅のそばには手まりの湯という温泉もあり便利です。足湯(無料)もありました。一番感心したのはトイレです。とても綺麗で快適でした、洗面所の鏡がステンレスを磨き上げた物だったのにも感心です。周囲は一面田んぼなので犬の散歩には充分ですが、道の駅の敷地内は「犬の散歩禁止」の場所もあるので注意が必要です。夕方に到着したのですが、車中泊らしき車が10台以上停まっていました。夕食...

    You’ll find this roadside station in Tokamachi City, Niigata Prefecture along National Route 252 nestled within an idyllic, seemingly satoyama (village-vicinity mountain) landscape. There’s a restaurant that serves popular homecooked local cuisine, and the building also has a direct sales store where you can purchase vegetables, local soba, Senda Rice, folk crafts, and more. You can visit the prefecture’s largest snow cavern as well, and there’s a walking trail with a suspension bridge too. Seasonal events are held throughout the year.

    直売所とレストランがあり、レストランではおそばを中心とした食事を味わうことができます。直売所は規模が小さく、商品もそれほど多くありません。道の駅の脇には河童伝説のある淵や世界でも数例という珍しい岩脈が露頭している場所もあり、吊り橋を渡っていくことができます。

    This small roadside station is located in Shimoakadani, Tainai City, Niigata Prefecture along Prefectural Road 53, known as “Tainai Ninoji Koen Hagurosen.” It is built to resemble a log cabin that is situated among the grandeur of the mountains and river. Relieve yourself from the fatigue of your drive by resting near the wood-burning stove. You’ll find souvenir shops as well as a tourist information center inside. There’s also the “Kua House Tainai” hot spring facility nearby, as well as “Tarugahashi Amusement Park,” which contains both an amusement park and a zoo.

    トイレ休憩に立ち寄りました。が、お土産も買うことができました。とてもいいスポットでした。また、近隣にはお寺も。
