    A Japanese kappo cuisine restaurant and inn operating out of a two-story building adorned with two plaster angels and characters spelling the establishment’s name. Here you can stay in a room commanding a view of the Sea of Japan just outside. The establishment is also renowned as one of the leading restaurants in the prefecture, and customers rave about the outstanding seafood, bought fresh from Izumozaki Fishing Port just a stone’s throw away. The restaurant serves food from the Sea of Japan prepared with as little manipulation as possible in order to draw out the innate flavors of the high quality, fresh ingredients. The establishment’s eastern facade, facing the Hokkoku Highway, is 37 square meters in area and is a registered Tangible Cultural Property. The establishment two-story structure is capped by a tiled, gabled roof and is acclaimed as an excellent example of Western-style architecture prevalent between the late Meiji period and the Taisho period.

    An authentic Japanese restaurant in a residential area off the Joshin Bypass. Guests dine on contemporary kaiseki banquet cuisine among chic, dark toned decor. Their creative dishes add Western and Chinese-style arrangements to Japanese fare featuring regional, seasonal ingredients. Their ample lunch menu includes Shinshu soba noodles, sashimi sets, tempura sets, stone cooked wagyu beef sets, etc. Everything they serve is made with great care and is a feast for the eyes. The restaurant is decorated with a Taisho period pendulum clock, pottery, antiques, and more. Lots of people drop by for drinks at night.

    This long-standing Japanese kappo cuisine restaurant has been in business for over 180 years, since the late Edo period. Here you can enjoy the bounties of Murakami’s land and sea, including salmon and Murakami beef. Both the lunch and dinner menu consist exclusively of course meals. The full salmon course and toubanyaki Murakami beef course each come with over 10 dishes. The restaurant is reservation-only, with the exact contents of your meal being determined based on your preferences and budget. The establishment is replete with tatami mat rooms of varying sizes and can accommodate everything from individual diners to large groups and can be used for engagement ceremonies, Buddhist memorials, and all manner of engagements. The restaurant’s stately Japanese building bears walls and ceilings crafted by master artisans, and windows made with old glass, and the structure has been registered a National Tangible Cultural Property.

It is a well known restaurant loved not only be tourists but by the locals too. The restaurant serves set meals, rice bowls and individual dishes where guests can enjoy the local delights from both land and sea such as their daamata bowl topped with plenty of vivid red and flavorsome Murakami beef and fresh seafood. In the autumn guests can enjoy a menu full of Murakami specialties, salmon and salmon roe. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere with seating at the counter or on the raised tatami-floor. It’s the kind of restaurant where one could easily go by themselves and not feel out of place.

The restaurant serves a lunchtime salmon mini course, which is available all year-round, and allows customers to enjoy around five different salmon meals that have a history in Murakami dating back a thousand years.     This restaurant is an eight-minute walk from JR Yahiko Station and is known for serving fresh fish caught from the nearby harbor as well as local sake. The “wappa-meshi-zen” dish, made by bending a thin strip of wood and filling it with rice, fish, salmon roe, and more, is particularly famous. You can also enjoy sashimi made with locally caught fish, broiled “nodoguro,” oysters, and other a la carte dishes are available as well, with the “oban minced squid” being particularly popular. Since it is located on the approach to Yahiko-jinja Shrine, you can drop in before or after your shrine visit.

    This Kaiseki cuisine restaurant in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, is convenient for both group dining and meals which are provided after events. Taking advantage of local seasonal ingredients, at lunch time, the restaurant serves a menu called Seafood Hitsumabushi, and, mini Kaiseki meals and Gozen set meals, which are on a daily rotating menu. In the evening, in addition to the seasonal Kaiseki meals, the restaurant also prepares traditional Japanese sukiyaki and rockfish course dinners. With no reservation, visitors can order such meals as sashimi Gozen and boiled fish Gozen. Projectors and other equipment can also be used, and for welcome parties, reception parties and other events.

    岩室温泉のど真ん中。地味で素朴な佇まいの懐石料理。正直こんなところに?と感じますが、料理は飛び抜けてます。ランチメニューをいただきましたが、日本の古き良きところをきちんと丁寧に地味に滋味深く味わせていただきました。とても美味しい。
