Held continuously since 1919, the market consists of some 150 stalls stretching from Oshagiri Hall (Murakami History Museum) to an alley in Sanno-cho. Here you can find a wide variety of things for sale, including seasonal fresh vegetables, seafood, local specialty products, edible wild plants, and fresh flowers. Even today, the market serves as the pantry of Murakami and bustles with customers. You can also find stalls selling everyday essentials you’d never see in a souvenir store, and many locals as well as tourists can be seen in the market.

    Hakusan Morning Market is held in 2 Chome, Hakusanura, Chuo Ward, Niigata City, about five minutes’ walk from Hakusan Station. It closes every Tuesday except holidays.

Started by the local young persons' association? in 1911, the market was originally held on dates with a 5 or 9 but changed the next year to being held on dates with a 3 or 8, which it has stayed ever since.
