    This is a city park located in the Niigata City urban center near the Niigata City Office, Furumachi old town, and a variety of cultural facilities. Hakusan Park was built in 1873 as one of Japan’s first public parks based on the Dajokan Fukoku (Proclamation by the Grand Council of State). Located directly next to the Niigata Hakusan-jinja Shrine, it is used as a place of rest and relaxation by worshippers. Visitors can walk down the “Yasuragitei” embankment along the Shinanogawa River and pass “Ryutopia,” the Niigata City Performing Arts Center that features a rooftop park.

    An art gallery standing halfway between Niigata City Art Museum and the Niigata Bandaijima Art Museum. The gallery was establishment with the aim of providing opportunities to come in contact with fine art, and to contribute to the creation of an environment in which the appreciation of art is part of the cultural activities enjoyed by local residents. Operating out of a remodeled townhouse dating to the Taisho period, the gallery’s exhibition room is a space where visitors can experience a variety of quality works of art. The gallery holds a variety of exhibitions each month, providing opportunities for incorporating art into the private spaces of the home and office. One of the gallery’s charms is that many of its featured artists personally visit the facility, enabling visitors to experience their works of art and worldview on an even deeper level.

    This large museum, about 10,000 square meters in area, is located in Sekiharamachi, Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. The permanent exhibitions focus on the Jomon period and introduce the folk culture and history of Niigata. The “Jomonjin no Sekai Corner” teaches about the hunter-gatherer lifestyle of the Jomon settlers throughout the seasons. You’ll also find excavation reports and archaeological studies on Jomon culture, models of the covered walkways of Gangi-dori in the snowy Takada region, an explanation of the history of rice-making, and more.

    This urban park is located on National Route 353, east of the JR Nagaoka Station. It is also known as Oyama, and inside the park is a mini zoo and a play area for children. It is also a famous flower-viewing spot with approximately 2,500 cherry trees, with different types of tree, such as Yoshino cherry trees, weeping cherry trees and double-flowered cherry trees. Every spring, the Yukyuzan cherry blossom festival is held here, and in the evening, the trees are lit up and the park fills with crowds of tourists. In addition to the cherry blossoms, there are also flowers and trees such as irises and Japanese maple trees planted here, making the park a popular place for locals to relax throughout all four seasons.

    This amusement park is located adjacent to Myoko Sunshine Hotel and Myoko Sunshine Golf Club. There are over 20 different types of attractions such as Sky Jet and Go Karting that can be enjoyed by both adults and children. The park is open from April to early November every year, and in April there is Myoko Tenku Sakura, which is a free-entry opening event where visitors can look down upon 1,500 cherry trees from the Ferris wheel.

There museum’s areas where visitors can hold native Japanese rhinoceros beetlesand stag beetles, and feed swallowtail butterflies, are also popular.

    A tourism facility located in Akiyamago, an area known for its remoteness and called a paradise since ancient times. Surrounded by old-fashioned, bucolic scenery, facilities include a hotel, outdoor bath, restaurant, and shop. The restaurant boasts a panoramic view of Akiyamago; the Moegi Teishoku combo meal, made with an abundance of local ingredients, is particularly recommended. The hearty meal comes with char grilled with salt shioyaki style, kenchin jiru vegetable soup, a local stew called hira, and a side. The use of local Uonuma-grown Koshihikari rice further enhances the innate flavors of the ingredients used.

    津南町、秋山郷の手前にあります立派な施設です。場所柄空いていることが多くゆっくりお湯に浸かることができました。特に露天風呂は内湯から離れていますが山々を見ながら入れますので大自然の中リラックスできますよ。山深いところにありますがドライブやツーリングルートでの立ち寄りがおすすめです。

    This campground is connected to Shimamihama beach. This campground, built in forest dedicated to harmony with nature, has 32 tent sites and four communal kitchens. The wide tent area contains eight permanent tents. They have a full range of goods for rent including tarps, cooking sets, sleeping bags and more, so anyone can come and enjoy outdoor fun with little prep. There is fun for the whole family, with is a trim course and a bird sanctuary in the park, perfect for strolling through the natural scenery, and on clear days the view from the observation deck reaches all the way to Sado Island.

    The Tochio Art Museum was founded to mark the 40th anniversary of the granting of city status to Tochio (Tochio has since been absorbed into Nagaoka City), in a location that has the site of Tochio Castle—which is associated with Uesugi Kenshin—in the background. The Museum holds four special exhibitions every year, and also holds exhibitions of works from the Museum’s own collections by artists associated with the area. Workshops and galleries can be rented free of charge (for non-profit purposes), although advance booking is required. The Tochio Art Museum is located around 40-minute drive from the Nagaoka Interchange of the Kan-Etsu Expressway.

    This park is on a former castle hill. The grounds within its old ramparts and foundation have a variety of trees and flowers and locals often come here to relax. About 3,000 camellia bloom from winter to spring, when 500 cherry trees, satsuki azaleas, and other trees and shrubs flower. In summer the park hosts the Earth Celebration, Sado's biggest event, with three days of concerts, markets, workshops, experience programs, and more.

    This museum was founded to promote the region around Tokamachi. It's the main venue for the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, an intentional art festival held once every three years in Echigo-Tsumari. The building itself was designed by Hiroshi Hara, one of Japan's leading architects. The cubic building has a pond set in its square atrium. During periods other than the art festival, it has a permanent exhibition with various artwork on display. There is also a museum shop and a cafe restaurant fashioned on a Spanish Bar.

    To reach Niigata Prefectural Toyonaga Park, visitors should board the bus bound for Meike-Atago from Niigata Station, get off at the Yakyuujo-Kagakukan Mae bus stop about 15 minutes later, and walk about eight minutes. The park is a prefectural park that extends along the shores of Toyanogata Lagoon and consists of two areas. The Meike area contains a lookout where visitors can view the entire lagoon at once and a promenade lined with cherry trees where visitors can stroll and look at the trees and other plants. The Shumokuchiku area contains a main open plaza, a Japanese garden that changes with the four seasons, and a rest house and other facilities. The park also sponsors a number of observation events, such as guided walks and bird watching sessions, and seasonal experiential events in which visitors can try their hands at various crafts.

    Akiha Park is a comprehensive park located a short drive from Niitsu Station in the city of Niigata, Niigata Prefecture. It is a famous site for viewing cherry blossoms that is illuminated during the spring blossom season, and visitors can also view a Japanese garden, a peony garden, and other sights. The children's section contains a jungle gym, a suspension bridge and other athletic equipment, along with an animals' area where children can play with and encounter animals such as deer, rabbits, and peafowl. The entire park is grass-covered, and visitors can spend an entire day enjoying the Gohokaku Observatory, the campground, and the outdoor music auditorium (admission charge).

    Lavender Beach is part of Omi Coast Geosite, about a 14-minute walk from Itoigawa Station in the city of Itoigawa, Niigata Prefecture. The beach gets its name from the lavender-colored jade that can be found there. The open area near the beach contains the statue of Nunakawa-Hime, a ruler in Jomon Period, and the relief that portray the processing steps of jade. Beachcombers can find all kinds of stones other than jade, and it is a great place to find a unique stone for one's self.

    This green space is located along Shinano River in Chuo Ward, Niigata City. It has maintained flower beds, a cycling road and pavilions on the Shinano River embankment. It is famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot in the spring, and visitors can enjoy views of the cherry blossoms with the nationally designated Important Cultural Property, Bandai Bridge, in the background.

    This museum was established to honor the achievements of pioneering Japanese historical geographer Togo Yoshida. Standing on the site where Yoshida was born, this so-called “open museum” may be freely used by local residents as a learning space. Yoshida spent 13 years in self-study compiling his “Dai Nihon Chimei Jisho” (“A Dictionary of Japanese Place Names”). The museum is a fascinating destination not only for students of geography but also those engaged in local development projects. The only museum in the country focusing on understanding and compiling the achievements of Yoshida, whose influence continues to reverberate today, the facility serves as a source of information and a place where one can learn more about local areas.
