This museum in Tokamachi City, Niigata Prefecture, houses and displays historical and cultural artifacts from Tokamachi based on the theme of “snow, textiles and the Shinano River”. There are a lot of models, dioramas, and archaeological finds etc. displayed in the museum which introduce in chronological order the history of the Jomon period through to modern times. You can also see artifacts relating to Tokamachi textiles which show the tools that were used and resourcefulness of the people in their daily lives in this region of heavy snow. The flame-style pottery, excavated from the Sasayama site in Tokamachi City, Niigata Prefecture, are the most outstanding items exhibited in the museum and have been designated as National Treasures.

This all-weather pick-your-own strawberry farm, Uonuma's first, is a five-minute drive from Yuzawa Interchange. Open from January to the end of June, people of all ages can enjoy picking strawberries rain, snow, or shine. Guests can pick sweet and juicy Echigohime strawberries (a variety exclusive to Niigata Prefecture) raised with great attention to their watering and cultivation in the farm's three big greenhouses. The farm is wheelchair accessible, as the strawberries can be picked without bending over and the greenhouses were built with wide passages. Visitors can choose to either take home their strawberries or enjoy the all-you-can-eat option. The farm also has a rest area where you can eat your strawberries.

Located in 1 Chome, Jonai, Ojiya City, Ojiya Nishikigoi no Sato is a facility where visitors can view beautiful Nishikigoi (varicolored carp, also known as “golden carp”). Around 45% of all Nishikigoi produced in Niigata Prefecture are bred in Ojiya; these “swimming treasures” have become a famous local specialty, and are highly regarded both in Japan and overseas. Visitors can view Nishikigoi in the park area, and can also see specially-selected specimens in the viewing ponds. There are displays that enabled visitors to learn more about Nishikigoi, and visitors can also feed the Nishikigoi in the viewing ponds.

This museum is located in a wooden schoolhouse built in 1920 that has been preserved as-is. Inside the building which still bears the vestiges of its days as a schoolhouse are displays for a collection of over 30,000 folk materials that have been designated as important tangible folk-cultural properties, including tools and equipment for shipbuilders. During the Hakusan Maru Matsuri festival held every summer, the Hakusan Maru, Japan’s first fully-restored sengokubune (wooden freight ship) that is on display in the museum, is pulled out under human power and an impressive large white sail that is 155 tatami mats in size is raised.

This is a natural science museum built in nature-rich satoyama (village-vicinity mountain) in Tokamachi City, Niigata Prefecture. It introduces many displays related to the heavy snows of the satoyama as well as exhibits made in cooperation with local residents. The permanent exhibition includes the “Forrest Aquarium,” a display of aquatic life in the rice terraced area, an area introducing the lifestyle of the town in the snow, the local resident’s ‘treasures’ as well as an area for creative works. There is also a variety of experience programs such as a nature observation tour, rice making experience, and a woodworking experience using natural wood.

Niigata Niigata-shi Chuo-ku Minamihama Dori 2-562

This building was acquired at the end of the Edo period by the seventh head of the Ito family, the wealthiest landowners in Echigo, to serve as the family’s Niigata villa. Niigata-born poet and calligrapher Aizu Yaichi also famously spent his last years here. Today, the compound is used as a museum which displays works by Yaichi and other artists, and here visitors can view Yaichi’s poems and calligraphic pieces along with a view of a traditional Japanese garden. The Zabo and Seigyoan tearooms on the first floor can be used to host tea ceremony and other events. An elegant time can be spent in the sanjo-daime-style tearooms.

This tourism facility operates as a farmer’s market, located in Tsukioka, Shibata City, Niigata Prefecture, with the theme of food education and “local production and local consumption.” At the farmer’s market, local farmers sell fresh vegetables, fruit, flowers, rice and other products. Inside the farm, there are such shops as the farmer’s restaurant, which uses local ingredients aplenty for its buffet, an Italian restaurant, whose firewood kiln-cooked pizza is highly recommended, a handmade soba restaurant and a sweet shop. There are also many facilities that children will enjoy, such as the rabbit-feeding plaza and the largest swing in Japan.

This museum located at the bottom of the former site of Kasugayama Castle is a 20-minute walk from Kasugayama Station on the Echigo Tokimeki Railway. The mud-colored building, built in the style of Japanese-style homes, is a place where Jomon Period artifacts unearthed in Joetsu City are researched, stored, and exhibited. Guests can watch the museum's staff catalog and restore artifacts or try their hand at a number of activities including making magatama (an ancient style of curved beads). Due to its location close to Kasugayama Castle, the castle of the famous warring states period warlord Uesugi Kenshin, it is also the headquarters of the Uesugi Omotenashi Bushotai, a group of historical reenactors.

日本百名城巡りの一環として初めて行きました。遺跡の発掘をしている事務所とおもっていたら、春日山城の展示をやっていました。上杉謙信について立派な展示があり、年表やイラストを交え分かりやすかったです。しかも入場無料なのがすごいですね

Pier Bandai is the largest fresh food market along the Sea of Japan with a seafood center and farmer’s market. Thanks to its cafeterias, kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt sushi), and ramen shops, this is becoming a place to fully appreciate Niigata’s foods. There is also a BBQ area where all the necessary materials are supplied, so guests can borrow a BBQ set (for a fee) and enjoy cooking the food they have just purchased on site. The facility has an excellent location set in the heart of Niigata City.

Visitors to this leisure facility located in Yuzawa Town, Minamiuonuma County can enjoy fishing in a mountain stream surrounded by a lush green forest. You can show up empty-handed and fish with either live bait or lures (there is a separate area for fishing with lures). The facility has a fish grilling area where you can cook the rainbow trout, char, and cherry salmon that can be caught in its mountain streams, as well as a barbequing area. Visitors can also try catching fish by hand in a stone-lined watering hole. Once in a while, someone will catch a rare wild sculpin.

エサ釣りは貸しざおがある。ルアーコーナーもある。子供づれでお父さんやお母さんが嬉しそうに釣れた魚を竿にぶら下げたまま係員に渡して調理してもらっているのが微笑ましい。同じ漁協が経営していた大川フィッシングパークは、係員の感じが大変悪かったが、こちらは感じが良い。渓流釣りの餌が足りなくなった時に、こちらで買い求めるが、ぶどう虫1パック２０匹入り七百円は割高。

This botanical garden is located in 3 Chome, Miyamoto-machi, Nagaoka City. The garden focuses mainly on natural vegetation that does not include foreign plants, horticultural plants or seaside plants. It covers over 35 hectares of foothill land, and visitors can view the various plants that grow here and change with the seasons. This all-weather farm is 15-minutes from the Kurosaki Interchange. This is the oldest organic farm in Niigata growing fruits from all seasons with minimal use of pesticides. Along with being able to pick fruit year-round you can enjoy their original fruit pizza baked in their own lava-stone oven. You can also feed and play with their goats and rabbits as well as enjoy a BBQ under the grape vines in the vineyard.

"Echigo-tsumari region is about 30-minute drive from Matsudai Station on theHokuhoku Line.Christian Boltanski and Jean Kalman created their large-scale installation ""The Last Class""in 2006and submitted it tothe major tri-annual art festival, the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2018. The site of the festival is the Echigo-tsumari Region (the town of Tsunan in the city of Tokamachi), and the artists put the installation together in an abandoned elementary school to represent the notion of ""the absence of people."" It stimulates the five senses, with sounds like the beating of drums in the darkness and flickering lightbulbs. Recently, a new installation has been added to ""The Last Class"",Boltanski's""Theater of Shadows: Happy Companions"", which represents life and death in a humorous manner. It is open to the public for limited times outside of the Triennale."

There are many ways to have fun at the facility. These include riding the water slides at its all-season water park with, enjoying water polo or synchronized swimming in its Olympic-size indoor pool in the summer, or enjoying ice skating and curling in the winter. The park's facilities also include a bathing room with full-body baths, sauna, and utaseyu (waterfall shower), as well as training rooms and conference rooms. Guests at this adventure park in Yuzawa Town move from tree to tree via a series of zip-lines, rope bridges, and other aerial challenges. This outdoor activity, which originated in France, utilizes the natural layout of the forest's trees. Both adults and children can enjoy a thrilling adventure in one of two types of courses. Guests at least 110 centimeters tall can enjoy a Canopy Course without having to operate their own safety equipment. This is a private art museum on Kyomachi-dori Street that richly preserves Sado Kinzan’s history. The elegant building with its red-tiled roof occupies the old Aikawa Court House. Works by the late woodblock print artist and founder of Hangamura Shinichi Takahashi as well as by Hangamura artists are displayed. Visitors would do well to note that the museum is closed from December to February.

佐渡奉行所からすぐの場所。通りに面した美術館の塀には、美術館が所蔵する版画作品のモニュメントがずらり。朱鷺やたらい舟、夕日の沈む海など。白黒の作品や少し色彩を加えたもの。それぞれに趣があって、佐渡の思い出を深めてくれるような作品です。
