    Kanagawa Miura-shi Minamishitauramachi Matsuwa
"A Western-style lighthouse on the southeastern tip of the Miura Peninsula illuminating the route to the Uraga Channel, the gateway to Tokyo Bay. It is located above the cliffs of Tsurugizaki, and has been designated among ""Kanagawa's Top 50 Scenic Spots."" The view is magnificent and even takes in the distant Boso Peninsula. There is also a beautiful reef you can see when descending from the lighthouse."

Located on the eastern tip of the Miura Peninsula, Japan's first Western lighthouse was designed by the French engineer, Verney, in 1868, and was lit in 1869. The original lighthouse is said to have been an elegant structure with a light tower on the roof made of bricks from the Yokosuka Steel Works.

The boatman Ishihara Yujiro's older brother Shintaro commemorated the third anniversary of his passing by raising funds to have this light house built. It's also known as Yujiro Lighthouse. It stands on a reef off the Morito Coast, which has the widest sandy beach in Hayama. It flashes every three seconds at night to keep the sea safe. It can be seen from Morito-jinja Shrine near the coast.

Kanagawa Areas

around-area-map

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha. Visitors can also travel a little farther afield for a weekend at Hakone onsen town.
