Trattoria Franco is an Italian restaurant located five minutes’ walk from Yokohama Station’s West exit. The stylish interior is decorated with wine bottles and natural woodgrain tables and based on a Florence trattoria. Their Spaghetti with Meat Sauce is a popular dish, but their multi-course meals are a good value for the money. This shop is so popular at lunch, it’s hard to get in without reservations.

This is a kamameshi (rice, meat and vegetable dish served in a small pot) specialist and day-trip hot spring facility in Hakone Town, Ashigarashimo County, Kanagawa Prefecture, often featured in guidebooks and television programs. Alongside the eatery is a natural hot spring bathing facility, and during the 40 minutes it takes for the kamameshi to cook one can enjoy the time in the thick Owakudani waters. The kamameshi is a luxuriant mix of chicken meat, fish and vegetables harvested from the mountainside. The baths are paid entry, and it is possible to choose either bathing or meal only.

This is an Italian restaurant near to the Fujiya Hotel around a seven- minute walk from Miyanoshita Station, opened by a chef who gained his experience at famous hotels in Tokyo and Hakone. The former credit union building is a unique structure, and diners enter through an escalator-style stairway. They use only carefully selected ingredients including fresh local vegetables and meticulously chosen seafood. The dressings and whip butter for bread are homemade, part of their time and effort to offer authentic Italian cuisine. The pasta lunch options and onion soup au gratin with hot spring boiled egg are popular choices.

The food is delicious. We ate here for lunch and for dinner. Real Italian, not fusion. Recommend the pasta. Wine selection is good. Building looks old, but food is excellent!

A New York-style bakery located along Daikanzaka. The chef is truly talented, having been involved in opening numerous bakeries and having won awards in contests. Inside, the bakery is filled with an abundance of breads and cookies. Examples include Hershey’s chocolate croissants and authentic bagels, as well as hot dogs. Come and enjoy the American flavors on offer. Visitors can have their fill of a variety of other choices as well, such as fresh side breads and Hawaiian-style donuts.

Many delicious baked goods using whole wheat, rye, etc. Not just bleached white flour like the majority of bakeries in Japan. Reasonable prices for the step up in quality.

Kanagawa Areas

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha. Visitors can also travel a little farther afield for a weekend at Hakone onsen town.
