    Venerable Szechuan restaurant Jukei Hanten opened in 1959 and still offers authentic Szechuan cuisine made the old fashioned way. The Honkan location is currently under renovation and plans to reopen in fall of 2018. (Reopened October 10). Its shop that is two buildings down from the Honkan is open. It’s located two minutes’ walk from Minatomirai Line Motomachi-Chukagai Station Exit 2.

    This restaurant is located on the second floor of Sogo Yokohama, which can be reached by going down the Central Passage of the Porta underground mall connected to the east exit of Yokohama Station. Sporting a white decor and a high-class atmosphere, here you can enjoy cuisine made with seasonal ingredients. The restaurant also serves seasonal items and special limited-time collaboration items. Particularly recommended are the beef tenderloin steak rice bowl, and the pork tenderloin cutlet curry; both can be ordered as a set meal which comes with soup, salad, and a drink of your choice.     Katsuretsuan Bashamichi Main Shop is a restaurant which has continued making cutlets as one of the unchanging tastes of Yokohama since it was founded in 1927. Its secret sauce is superb as carefully selected ingredients, special fresh bread crumbs, vegetables and fruit are stewed for two days and set aside for one day. A cutlet brought into Kannai (a part of Yokohama) by a foreign chef was reshaped and transformed into a unique Japanese-style cutlet by the first owner. It is a must-try dish that allows you to feel tradition and commitment. It is one minute walk from Exit 9 at Kannai Station on the Yokohama Municipal Subway Line.

    Bashamichi Jyuban-kan built in 1967 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Meiji period (1868–1912) is a western building with an architectural style from the time Yokohama Port was established. It has a tea room, a bar and a restaurant, and can be used for weddings and entertainment. You can see the good old days through documents that convey the flavor of civilization during Japan’s westernization. It is one minute’s walk from Exit 9 at Kannai Station on the Yokohama Municipal Subway Line.

    A bakery and restaurant located near Motohakone Port on the shore of Lake Ashi in Hakone Town, Ashigarashimo County, Kanagawa Prefecture. Here visitors can enjoy flavorful breads made with select ingredients while gazing out over beautiful Lake Ashi. The bakery shop on the first floor sells several varieties of daily fresh-baked breads which can be brought home or eaten with a cup of coffee poured by one of the baristas in the second floor café. The third floor is a casual open kitchen restaurant serving sandwiches, galettes, and a full menu of other items which make full use of the delicious in-house breads.     The home location of Toshimaya, a sweet shop which sells the classic Kamakura souvenir, the hato sablé. The hato sablé (“pigeon cookie,” named after its shape) was first made in 1897. The rich, buttery flavor has long been one of Kamakura’s go-to souvenirs. Located close to the Ni no Torii gate on Wakamiya Oji, the Toshimaya here also sells hato sablé goods found nowhere else.

    A Japanese restaurant located a two minute walk from Gora Station famous for the lines that can form at its door. Tamura is renowned for its stewed tofu and pork cutlet, made with specially ordered tofu from the renowned Hakone Gin-dofu and a deep fried domestic Japanese ground pork cutlet. The restaurant uses three varieties of carefully selected pork for its tonkatsu cutlets—Waton mochibuta, Fujinomiya kurobuta, and ruibi-buta. The pork roast cutlet gozen meal is also a favorite of diners thanks to the juicy and flavorful pork meat. Diners can enjoy their meal at a table or tatami seating in the restaurant’s subdued, Japanese atmosphere.

    2022年の市場食堂巡りの〆は、1日20食限定の小田原丼。12/30の最終営業日は帰省客が多い気がしました。出発が遅かったから限定食はあきらめてました。20分程並んで券売機前に来た所で、店員さんの『小田原丼あと一食で-す』の声！迷わずポチりました。連れは残念ながら海鮮丼。でも、どちらもボリューム満点です。パリパリの鯵の骨フライはラスワンにふさわしい美味しさでした。

    This is a fisherman’s cuisine restaurant where one can taste fresh fish including transparent “raw shirasu (young sardines).” They are fresh because they come from the first morning catch of their own boat “Asamaru,” which sails the Shonan sea at daybreak. The interior is styled in a way that evokes the atmosphere of the inside of a ship. There is also a children’s menu available and bringing young ones is recommended.

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha.
