The bakery in Nishiogikubo is marked by its wooden owl sign. Found down a narrow alley, this hidden gem has a relaxed atmosphere. The name, Entuko, comes from the Tohoku dialect word for a basket to hold your baby while you work in the fields. They offer over 40 different types of bread baked fresh every morning. Their most popular usually sell out just after noon. Their best seller is their chewy, hedgehog themed Nishiogi Hari-kun made with lots of chocolate chips. Our recommendation is the Entuko Toast, bearing the shop's name, rich with fermented butter and aromatic Hokkaido wheat.

This grocery store stocks only things the owner, Mr. Yasui, has personally eaten and found delicious while visiting production areas across the country. The store's vegetables are primarily supplied by producers in Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture; Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture; and Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture. Its chicken comes from Shimanto City, Kochi Prefecture and its pork from Yokote City, Akita Prefecture. Everything is something Mr. Yasui has a personal attachment to. The store takes particular pride in the freshness of its fish, which is shipped direct from a supermarket operated by a friend of Mr. Yasui located close to the fishing port in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, ensuring it arrives one day earlier than fish passing through the Tsukiji market.

A five-minute walk from Nishi-Ogikubo Station. This art gallery-style boutique is located at the Nishiogi-minami 3-Chome Intersection traveling from the station's South Exit. There are about 200 rentable wooden display boxes in the boutique which are filled with whatever creators renting the boxes like. The contents of the boxes are for sale and they contain everything from ornaments to indie CDs. Just coming here to look around is fun!

Tokyo Areas

around-area-map

The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
