  This is an area of forested green spaces attached to the National Museum of Nature and Science, Tokyo with an abundance of nature remaining in the center of Tokyo. The entire site is designated as a Natural Monument and Historic Site. Various kinds of plants, deciduous trees and evergreens grow naturally and it is also a famous spot to view cherry blossoms and the colors of the autumn leaves. More than 2,000 kinds of insects have been recorded in the garden, as well as wild birds such as the Japanese White Eye (mejiro) and kingfishers. The area is known as a valuable spot where living things can be observed closely. The nearest station in Meguro or Shirokanedai Station.

The museum is housed in the former residence of Prince Asaka, an art deco structure built in the early Showa period (1920s to 30s) now designated an Important Cultural Property. The museum conducts a variety of exhibitions on art deco and other themes. A new annex was built in 2014. Elevators were also installed and work was continued on the museum garden, with all construction finally being completed and all museum facilities being opened to the public in March 2018.
