The drink bar consists of seasonal fresh fruit juices, coffee, and tea, and is all-you-can-drink. The shop's most popular items are its strawberry shortcakes and apple pies.

This specialty shop serves Brittany inspired crepes and galettes. Their Provencal galette with cheese, tomato, egg, and anchovies is especially popular. People also love the dessert crepe with heaps of fruit, cream, and syrup. They import cider direct from Brittany made with 100% locally produced apple juice that goes great with crepes. If you like what you're drinking, they sell it too.

Kagurazaka Saryo is popular for their huge slightly sweet desserts that only use Japanese ingredients. Try one of their eight classic Kyoto-style meals for lunch or afternoon tea. Spend your time in this homely, hidden away, Japanese restaurant.

This gelato specialty shop, is seemingly a well kept secret of the chocolate specialty store, Muse du Chocolat Theobroma. Look for the trademark red door at the end of the small alleyway that feels like something out of the backstreets of Europe. Although cakes and chocolate are served, their specialty is gelato. Every morning a number of different freshly made gelatos are displayed. The velvety rich Gelato Chocolat is the masterpiece of Theobroma. The Spiral is the most popular menu item, where you choose two different flavors that are mixed together with a special machine. The parfaits, varied by season, are also popular.

The highly recommended Croissant Sandwich S Set consists of a sandwich made from a croissant with cut fruits, fresh juice, and a mini- parfait or mini-mixed yogurt.

Located in an area full of office buildings, Petit Bonheur has a comfortable, friendly atmosphere. At the lunchtime salad buffet on weekdays, diners can fill up on vegetables, something that many people do not eat enough of. Petit Bonheur's cute little cream puffs with marshmallow are also highly regarded. There are vegetarian menu items, and the restaurant is also a popular place for parties.

  • Shonosuke (Kanda Suda-cho Shop)
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Tokyo Chiyoda-ku Kandasudacho 1-8-5
"This confectionary shop is located a one-minute walk from Ogawamachi Station and Awajicho Station. ""Shonosuke"" is the name the top referee in sumo wrestling takes when appointed to that position, and the shop's name is derived from the fact that it was opened by the 22nd Kimura Shonosuke. The shop's most well-known product is its signature Shonosuke Monaka wafer cake, shaped like a sumo referee's traditional fan. The tasty and flavorful treat's crisp wafer crust encloses top-class sweet Dainagon azuki bean paste. Many of the shop's products are sumo-themed, such as the Jukunshu, a long-lasting dried candy created to commemorate Kimura Shonosuke's 99th birthday and his receipt of the Order of Merit; and the Yoiwai, a sekihan ball made with top-class glutinous mochi rice and Bitchu cowpeas."

This Japanese confectionery shop is located a five-minute walk from Myogadani Station. You'll find this elegant little shop hidden away in an alley on Kasuga-dori Street. Their signature product is their warabi mochi, which has an unusual soft yet springy texture that gives it a truly refined flavor. These treats are coated with soy flour and stuffed with red bean jam, and many customers have had their entire notions of what's possible with warabi mochi turned upside down after experiencing what's on offer at Ikkoan. Warabi mochi is the store's star product, with fans from across the country. As such, making a reservation before your visit is the best way to guarantee you can try it for yourself. They also have a wide selection of other seasonal Japan confectioneries, such as sakura mochi and kuri kinton.

    Tokyo Bunkyo-ku Hongo 3-34-5
"This Japanese confectionery shop faces the Hongo-sanchome Intersection. The front of the store is marked by a solemn-looking sign that truly imparts a sense of the establishment's long history, and inside they sell some tender treats that are perfect for taking a break from the daily hustle. Their signature item since its foundation in 1932 is the highly rated ""Daigaku Monaka,"" a treat packed full of coarse red bean paste from Tokachi that can be enjoyed as is or alongside some nice, cool ice cream. Between late March and late April, Hongo Miharado sells ""Harimazaka,"" special treats shaped after cherry blossom petals. These make for wonderful gifts (and are also sold throughout the year at Myogadani Miharado)."

"This long-established store that was opened in 1950 manufactures and sells Japanese confectionery in front of the University of Tokyo's Akamon (red gate). Operating out of the district of education that is Hongo, this store creates handmade cakes, biscuits, jo-namagashi and other Japanese confectionery, with a focus on local culture and the four seasons. The signature cake is their ""Akamon Mochi."" Made from bracken starch and Okinawan brown sugar, it's a fitting treat to represent the historical landmark that it was named for. The fragrant soy flour and the perfect sweetness of the brown sugar combine to create a distinctive flavor that will leave you hungry for more. The store also has an exclusive, limited-time seasonal product called the ""Kaga no Himuro (ice house)."" This name is also written on the curtain at the front of the shop, and is derived from an ancient custom where ice stored in ice houses in the Kaga domain would be presented to the Tokugawa shogunate as tribute. It is a standard treat to cool down when it is hot."

Tokyo Areas

around-area-map

The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
