    Tokyo Taito-ku Ueno 1-10-10
"A Japanese confectionary shop located close to the Ueno 3 Chome intersection on Chuo-dori Avenue a four-minute walk from Okachimachi Station. The shop's name, literally ""Rabbit Shop,"" is derived from the fact the original owner was born in the year of the hare. This long-standing establishment continues to follow the same policy of ""superb flavor, low prices, and container recycling"" implemented when it first opened its doors in 1913. The shop's signature products are its dorayaki pancake sandwiches filled with sweet Tokachi azuki beans; and its kisaku monaka half-moon-shaped wafer cakes filled with smooth sweet bean paste. The shop's dorayaki have a crisp outer dough made with lotus flower honey and are counted as one of the three best dorayaki in Tokyo. As they are packed while still hot off the griddle, customers are urged to eat them as soon as possible."

They make great dorayaki. This is worth the drive. Awesome stuff. You often see people eating it outside of the shop. Not able to wait until get home. If you’re around get one and try it out.

  • Himitsudo

    Tokyo Taitou-ku Yanaka 3-11-18
A renowned shaved ice shop that started out as a simple street stand. The shop stands in the Yanaka neighborhood, which still bears traces of its old Tokyo downtown atmosphere. The shaved ice is cranked out by hand just as in the good old days, and the shop uses spring water ice created slowly with natural outdoor cold. Himitsudo also uses fruit juice in place of artificial syrup, creating a truly luxurious treat. The shop keeps straws on hand so you can slurp up the slush at the bottom of your cup. Himitsudo is so popular, it issues numbered tickets at peak times.

This candy shop is on the Ueno Ameyoko Street in Ueno, Taito City. They stock about 4,500 kinds of candy. You can get great deals on some items if you buy in bulk, and they have cases available for vendors, schools, and local events.

Vast range of goodies and treats. More than another store in the vibrant and chaotic Ueno neighborhood. Provides a rest stop and interesting to explore. Much of which is of little use in mt hotel...

This veteran anmitsu sweet shop has been operating since 1948. The name Mihashi comes from the three bridges that used to be on the approach road to Kaneiji Temple. While anmitsu is their specialty, they provide a menu of simple, old-fashioned Japanese sweets. A variety of seasonal fruits makes their periodic anmitsu a hit. The Ueno Main Store also offers light fare like oden hot-pot, sekihan red rice, and bean jams including kidney bean.

This is a wonderful place for desserts with plenty of choices and at a reasonable prices. I tried something that I don’t know the name of but I was like a creme caramel. The flavour was pretty good...

Tokyo Taitou-ku Ueno 7-1-1 Ecute Ueno
The Ueno Station takeout location of this confectionary from Kakinokizaka. The shop's showcase is lined with colorful cakes made with seasonal fruits and other tasty ingredients. The shop's tarts and puddings, served in an eggshell, are also popular. Other popular choices are the Ueno Zoo panda-themed items, sold only at this location. Choose the panda pudding topped with a cute panda face or the big, domed shortcake modeled after the head of a panda.

This take-out shop is the Ueno Station branch of the Shiretoko, Hokkaido shop siretoko factory. Their signature item is their baked donut, made with loads of honey straight from Hokkaido right in the batter. There's even a cute little Kumagoron bear face stuck right in the donut hole, so it's as fun to see as to eat! The Ueno Station shop also has limited edition panda versions to commemorate Ueno Zoo's pandas!

    Tokyo Taitou-ku Ueno 4-1-8 Hase Vol. 1F
A cozy, home-style cafe located in the Ameya-Yokocho shopping arcade in Ueno a six minute walk from the Shinobazu exit of Ueno Station. Particularly recommended is the Butter Blend Coffee, created by Mr. Teraguchi, blender for a long-standing coffee shop in Kobe. Created by soaking fresh-roasted coffee beans in butter, this unique coffee blend becomes even smoother and more full-bodied when cream is added and is extremely easy to drink. The cafe's original sweets are handmade and designed to go great with coffee. The matcha kase kuchen cake is created by adding matcha green tea powder to natural yeast and baking it together with several varieties of cheese. It's served with Hokkaido adzuki sweet red beans, cream, and white chocolate.

Nezu no Ya is a natural foods grocery and vegan restaurant and cafe located in Tokyo's traditional downtown. This totally vegan restaurant uses genuine flavorings that are organically grown or painstakingly made in the old-fashioned way. The restaurant chooses its ingredients according to the season and prepares them in ways that bring out their full flavor. The resulting delicious menu items bring plenty of repeat customers to Nezu no Ya.

"A long-standing store that's operated since the early Meiji period. It's the originator of Kintaro-ame, a candy roll with the same design in the middle wherever it's sliced. People love it so much it's sometimes said, ""No Tokyo specialty tops Kintaro-ame."" At the time of shaping, skilled artisans assemble jumbo-sized candy by hand that is 35 centimeters in diameter and weighs about 50 kg. Close to Showa-dori Street, the shop also has candies with a variety of other patterns like zodiac signs, the Seven Lucky Gods, and the characters for ""arigato"" (thank you). It's fun just walking around checking out the variety. They also do made-to-order ""Bridal Kintaro-ame"" for weddings with the portraits of the bride and groom."

    Tokyo Taito-ku Uenokoen 9-86
A sweet shop located nearly at the center of Ueno Park, Japan's premier municipal park. It's near the entrance of Ueno Zoological Gardens and the five-story pagoda. They serve uguisu dango (sweet dumplings), a local favorite. The name of the sweet is written on their curtain in Japanese characters. Uguisu dango features three different kinds of dumplings: matcha green tea, white sweet bean, and azuki bean. They use the same recipe today as when they were founded in 1915. The shop's wood and green toned interior attracts a lot of international customers. In the summer they serve their popular shaved ice, but with the syrup on the bottom of the bowl.

A Japanese confectioner with a tasteful appearance and a long history. Since they started in 1900, they've been making mame-daifuku (chewy mochi rice cake filled with anko bean jam) the traditional way as well as their original ukikusa sweets. Their popular mame-daifuku are simple yet delectable, with Tokachi grown azuki beans inside fresh mochi rice cake made every morning. The harmony of salty red peas and sweet daifuku can be almost addictive. Call ahead and they'll hold onto your order, as long as you can get there by 15:00 (must be eaten the same day, so no cancellations).

This hand-baked rice cracker shop was founded in 1913. The shop has a modern exterior and is about a two-minute walk from the Nippori Station's West Exit, where they sell carefully made rice crackers. Their classic Katamaru are luxurious rice crackers with the sweetness of rice and the savoriness of soy sauce, and have a good old-fashioned taste with a chewy texture. It offers a wide variety of rice crackers, including zarame, which has just the right amount of sweetness, sesame, which has a rich flavor, and nori seaweed, which has seaweed sandwiched between light rice cracker dough.

This taiyaki shop is located a three-minute walk from Nezu Shrine. They sell freshly baked taiyaki at this compact shop that looks out over Shinobazu-dori Street. Their taiyaki that have thin, crisp shells with red bean paste filled all the way to the tail are popular items that inevitably sell out. They are sold out a few hours after they open, and it is not unusual for them to close the shop early. The tightly packed red bean paste is moderately sweet and is rendered elegantly, so they have a reputation for making you go for the next one without even thinking about it.

This breakfast snack is best enjoyed piping hot and eaten on the spot! The crispy outer fish cake and red bean go so well together that youd be happy eating it. Staff is super friendly in taking...

    Tokyo Bunkyo-ku Nezu 2-30-4
The confectionery shop was founded in the early Taisho era (1912-1926). It was named Imojin because the founder Jinzo started as a potato (imo) seller. The shop is located about a five-minute walk from Nezu Station's Exit 1, and you can buy various products such as anmitsu, mitsumame and tokoroten (jelly strips). You should try their wafer cake ice cream sandwiches made with homemade ice cream. The vanilla ice cream is mainly made from powdered milk, and the ice cream mixed with red bean paste is popular for its refined and elegant sweetness from both the red bean paste and sugar. It pairs well with the crispy wafer cakes, and a lot of people can be seen eating it while walking around Nezu. In the summer, they also offer shaved ice topped with ice cream.

Tokyo Areas

around-area-map

The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
