    This is a large bookstore located in Shinjuku in Tokyo's Shinjuku City. The main building and annex buildings are located between Shinjuku-dori Avenue and Yasukuni-dori Avenue. On the main building's nine floors including one basement floor and eight floors above ground the store sells items such as literature, foreign books, specialist books, magazines and picture books. There is even the Shinjuku Medical Book Center that offers items specific to the medical field, the Kinokuniya Hall which is home to performances for drama and rakugo, and the Event Hall that hosts book-signings. The annex carries comics, light novels, CDs and DVDs.

    This is a large bookstore located five minutes on foot from JR Ikebukuro Station East Exit, and the sales floor is from the basement to the ninth floor. There are books of various genres ranging from literary books to magazines, comics, medical and other specialist books etc. Many people visit from far away to find the book they are looking for. Inside the shop, you can search for your desired book with the help of a search machine, or you can use the desks and chairs provided to choose your books carefully. There is also a café on the fourth floor.

The flagship shop of the venerable Shosen bookstore chain, which was founded in 1948, the store sees an unending stream of visitors seeking to purchase highly specialized books from among Shosen Grande's massive selection. The sixth floor, for example, is stocked only with materials relaxing to railroads, and the selection of not only books but also merchandize and railroad accessories has made it a mecca for train aficionados. The seventh floor event space is frequently used to host events for young up-and-coming entertainers. Every floor offers something different, making Shosen Grande a fun place just to come and look.

The bookstore carries some 50 thousand picture books arranged based on child age and school year. Notably, the store's selection has been chosen not based on the kinds of books parents want to read to their children but rather the kinds of books children like. The large Cooyon Market on the second floor carries fun, safe, and healthy toys from around the world. Meanwhile, there is a women's book and organic cosmetics corner on the third floor, and a vegetable market and restaurant serving dishes made with an abundance of organic vegetables on floor B1, and the establishment is renowned for being a place where parents and children both can have lots of fun.

Although the shop sells adult-oriented merchandise, it is also notable for its large collection of books and products for more general tastes. Some of the things sold at Melonbooks are offered nowhere else, and many customers come here from far away seeking their favorite dojinshi and related merchandise. Open until 11 pm, even people coming home from work can stop by and browse at their leisure.

Many visitors come from far away as the media have introduced the place as a sacred site for cat lovers. Although he is not in the store, a brown striped cat called Rikuo serves as the store manager.

There are two Tora no Ana shops in the Ikebukuro area, and Tora no Ana B is one of them, while Tora no Ana A sells mostly merchandise that appeals to men. The store also sells adult comics along with action figures and other toys. In November 2015, the former Store A and Store B changed places, so the current Store A is in the building where Store B was formerly located.

Open until midnight on weekdays, the shop is the perfect place to casually stop by on the way home from work.

The store has been in business since the Taisho period and is divided into two floors, each of which has its own collection of books and facilities. The first floor is designed to be a veritable forest of books and here you'll find publications spanning such diverse genres as art photo collections, illustrated books, and art critiques, as well as design, architecture, photo, and performing arts books. The second floor has a book gallery where you can also see works of art by a variety of artists and casually browse paintings and woodblock and art prints. The store also irregularly holds special exhibitions and events.
