This lookout platform is located in Tennodai in Choshi City. It sits atop the peak of Mt. Atagoyama—the tallest in the northeastern part of the prefecture—and it offers 360-degree panoramic view, 330 degrees taken up by an oceanic horizon. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Fuji, Mt. Tsukuba, as well as the electricity-generating windmills along Byobugaura Coast, and they say you can feel the curvature of the earth. There are retail shops, event areas, and a café corner, all with great views.

It took me 20-25 minutes from Inubo Station to climb up the hill to reach this place though Information I have says 15 minutes. Access by public transportation is very bad. Very few visitors despite...

The Engishiki Jinmyocho, a list of shrines compiled in the Heian period, includes the name of the Tamasaki Shrine. It has long been the primary shrine of the Kazusa region, and has kept the ancient rites all that time. The main building is rare in that it is built in the black-lacquered Gongen-zukuri style, and is quite beautiful. Other sights are t a monument with a haiku from Basho, and the stands of yew plum pines. The Kazusa Kagura sacred music is present seven times a year, and is designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property by Chiba Prefecture.

Enpuku-ji Temple of the Shingon sect is the 27th temple in the Bando Sanjusankasho, a pilgrimage circuit of 33 Buddhist temples, drawing many worshippers. This ancient temple with a long history began, according to tradition, when a fisherman casting his net caught the statue of the Eleven Faced Kannon and enshrined it in 728. The temple was then properly founded by Kukai (Kobo Daishi) in the Konin period. In the temple grounds is a bright vermillion five-storied pagoda, a five meter statue of Amitabha (Great Buddha), and Japan’s largest embroidery of the reclining Buddha. Festivals are held on the 18th of each month which attract many visitors.

It is famous for having the longest official name of any temple in Japan: Sanzugato Gokurakutomon Rengedaijo Amidabo Taihei yasan Honjitsujoin Chofukujuji. An elephant stone statue on the grounds named Kichizo-kun is supposed to fulfill wishes for health and long life. Increased wealth, and a happy family life to people who rub its feet.

Further inland, Narita - most famous as the home of Narita Airport - is a secret haven of tradition and history in the form of centuries-old Shinshoji Temple and quaint wooden Edo buildings.
