  • Chiba City Folk Museum

    Chiba City Folk Museum is located in Inohana Park, which is the site of the former residence of the feudal Chiba clan, Inohana Castle. In addition to permanent exhibits of harquebus guns, swords, and armor, there are also rotating exhibits about the history of the Chiba clan and the history of Chiba prefecture. The museum is housed in a four-layered, five-story replica of the castle keep, and the top floor is an observation platform.

    Covering almost 41 acres, within the Naritasan Park are three ponds and two waterfalls. Along the route from the park entrance, rightward behind the main temple, to the Peace Tower and the Naritasan Museum of Calligraphy there are 460 red and white plum trees that come to full bloom between February and March. One can enjoy viewing the plum blossoms while listening to the peaceful sounds of water droplets cascading into the Suikinkutsu font next to the Museum, resonating like the sound of an exquisite Koto harp.

    "This museum is in Shiroyama Park, the site of the Satomi clan's Tateyama Castle in Tateyama City's Tateyama district. An annex of the park's Tateyama City Museum, it's built in the shape of a three-tiered, four-story castle tower. It features an exhibition of items relating to the historic novel ""The Chronicles of the Eight Dog Heroes of the Satomi Clan of Nanso"" by Bakin Kyokutei with its themes of the Satomi clan that ruled the region for about 170 years. Items on display include literature, picture books, color woodblock prints, and more."

    Chiba Pref. Sodegaurashi Shimonitta 1133 Sodegaura City Museum
    This is one of the Sodegaura City Local Museum's exhibition facilities. It's in Sodegaura Park. Established to commemorate the first anniversary of the Tokyo Bay Aqua Line, it has Aqua Line related models, items, and displays on the civil engineering technology used for its construction. The venue is sometimes used for other exhibitions, too.

    郷土博物館の右奥にあります。入場無料で館内撮影禁止は博物館に同じ。ロビーでは令和絡みのコラボ企画か「万葉集、花と樹の歌-瀧良子 植物画の世界-」を開催。展示ホールでの映像展示「東京湾の歴史と東京湾アクアライン」《約10分》はリクエストベースというか省エネモードで係員へお声がけが必要。

    This museum is composed mainly of items related to the ocean, and permanently exhibits the crafts and daily items of those who made a living through the sea. In addition, it holds more than 600 exhibits such as maiwai (costume worn to celebrate bumper catches) when there were large hauls and figureheads placed on the bows of Japanese ships. You can enjoy visiting together with easy-to-understand explanations of materials related to marine art.

    野島埼灯台の近くにありますが、けっこう分かりにくい場所にあるので、注意です。 美術館と言うより、民家の1部を改装して、美術館にしたような建物です。

  • Yatsu-higata Nature Observation Center

    This facility is in Yatsu Higata Park. It looks out over the Yatsu Tidal Flat, and a telescope lets you take in the unique environment with its over 110 varieties of birds that visit annually. Park employees who are tideland experts are always on hand, and apart from offering commentary on facility exhibits, they also conduct programs for making handicrafts with natural materials and hold observation classes. There is also a cafe where you can enjoy a meal on the waterfront.

    "This museum is in Shiroyama Park, the site Tateyama Castle. It was inhabited by the Satomi clan who governed the surrounding area for about 170 years. The museum has exhibits on the history of the Satomi clan as well as the Awa region and local folk customs. They hold history themed classes and lectures too. Tateyama Castle's Hakkeden Museum at the top of the hill has exhibits pertaining to the historic novel ""The Chronicles of the Eight Dog Heroes of the Satomi Clan of Nanso"" by Bakin Kyokutei with its Satomi clan themes."

    Chiba Kimitsu-Kameyama Children's Nature Center is a research and study center that stands on a site 4.5 times the footprint of Tokyo Dome. In addition to a campground and an orienteering course, indoor lodging facilities, a gymnasium, classrooms, a dining hall, a planetarium, and other facilities. It can be used for learning activities that take advantage of its natural environment full of wild animal life, and various kinds of nature experience events take place here throughout the year.
  • Funabashi General Education Center Planetarium

    Just a 15-minute walk from the JR Higashi Funabashi Station, this planetarium is part of the Funabashi City General Education Center. Boasting the largest planetarium in Chiba Prefecture, the dome alone is 18-meter wide and the auditorium seats 255 people. Inside the dome is the largest projector in Chiba, lovingly called Cosmo-kun, which projects any variety of night sky scenes, and a staff member gives live commentary on the scene for that night’s sky. There are starry night sky presentations for various seasonal themes that play automatically as well for visitors to enjoy the powerful full-dome experience, and there are the constellation buttons that can be pressed to light-up to simulate the seasonal constellations.

    This planetarium adjoins the Matsudo City Municipal Hall in Matsudo, Matsudo City. Planetarium shows are on weekends and holidays (only groups on weekdays), and on Wednesdays and Thursdays during summer break. The shows, which vary by season, are narrated live. The planetarium hosts special Christmas shows and summer astronomy classes for parents and children.

    The Sanyo Media Flower Museum got its start as the Flower Art Museum, a themed hall at the 12th Chiba National Municipal Greening Fair in 1995 and was opened as the Chiba City Flower Art Museum in 1996. Consisting of a greenhouse; exhibition hall; rest building; and outdoor front garden, middle garden, and rear garden, some 48,000 individual plants spanning 1,600 varieties are grown on the grounds. There’s also a studio where workshops and classes are held and a restaurant, and visitors can come and spend a soothing time surrounded by seasonal flowers.

    "This educational facility was built on the grounds of the Kitachiba No. 2 Pumping Station on the bank of Lake Teganuma. The No. 2 Pumping Station was built to regulate the water levels of Lake Teganuma, the Tega River, and the Saka River basin; prevent floods; and improve water quality. The center utilizes informational panels to explain the roles of the facility and how it was built. From some of the center's windows, visitors can see the station's sluice gates in operation. The center also distributes trading card-style ""Dam Cards"" with outlines of the sluice gates."
  • Junji Nakamura Art Museum

    This museum displays the works of Junji Nakamura, a talented artist with Down's syndrome who passed away at the age of 27. The museum is situated diagonally across from Otsugaoka Central Park on National Route 16. The museum displays a large number of watercolors and crayon drawings depicted with a delicate touch. A cafe operating out of a remodeled private home adjoins the museum, and here you can take a break after viewing the museum's collection. The museum also serves as a culture center, regularly holding concerts, special exhibitions, and other events.
  • Kashiwa City Local History Museum

    This museum is located on the second floor of the Kashiwa City Hall Shonan Branch City Office. The museum displays works of art, historic items, and other cultural properties in order to promote interest in and a deeper understanding of Kashiwa City. The museum's standing exhibition presents the history of Kashiwa City through three areas which look at prehistoric and ancient times, the middle ages and early modern period, and the modern period and beyond. Visitors can learn how the city developed through its relationships with Lake Teganuma and the Tone River, along with artefacts excavated from archeological sites in the region. The museum also regularly holds special exhibitions. Because of the museum's narrow focus, visitors can get a deep understanding of the local character. Entry is free, ensuring anyone and everyone is welcome to come view the museum.
  • Kashiwa Planetarium

    This domed planetarium is located on the second floor of the Kashiwa City Library. Planetarium shows are held on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month as well as the following Sundays, and entry is free. Show themes change monthly, and the stars and accompanying programs showed vary accordingly. The planetarium is notable for its homemade, home crafted approach. The cityscape at the base of the planetarium dome is made of paper cutouts and the movement of the projected stars is also operated manually. Program narration is provided entirely live by staff. The appeal of this is the adlib nature of the narration, which may use less complicated language when there are many children in the audience and, conversely, increase the amount of technical language when there are many knowledgeable people watching the show.
