    Mitsumine-jinja Shrine (literally meaning “three peaks shrine”), so called by that name because of the three peaks of Mt. Kumotori, Mt. Shiraiwa and Mt. Myohogatake which can be seen overlooking the eastern side of the shrine are beautifully positioned in a line. The god worshipped at the shrine is in fact Gokenzoku, the wolf and so the shrine is affectionately known as the Oinusama, meaning “honorable wolf deity”. There is also Mitsumineyama Museum in the shrine’s precincts with exhibits and treasures relating to mountain worship and temple retreat on display.

    Hitsujiyama Park is a green land park spread on a hilltop with a panoramic view of Chichibu City, and is known as a flower viewing place for the beautiful cherry blossoms, iris and moss phlox. In the park, moss phlox with more than some 400,000 plants from nine varieties are cultivated over about 17,600 square meters, and red, pink and white moss phlox flowers cover the whole area in spring like a patchwork of flowers. There are a range of facilities such as Fureai bokujo (ranch) where you can pat sheep, a museum for Mt. Buko which is a symbol of Chichibu and an athletics area. Anyone can enjoy the whole day there regardless of their age.

    A roadside station standing in front of Ashigakubo Station along National Route 299 in Ashigakubo, Yokoze Town, Chichibu County. Facilities include a farm fresh shop selling produce from local farms and other foods; two restaurants serving Chichibu's famous miso potatoes, zuriage udon noodles, and other local dishes; an activity facility where visitors can learn how to make ceramics and soba and udon noodles; a gallery; and shower rooms. The adjoining Mizube no Cafe serves a popular premium soft serve ice cream.

    The ancient and historic Chichibu-jinja Shrine, is a Saitama Prefecture designated Tangible Cultural Property, famous for its well preserved main hall, gifted by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1592. The Chichibu Night Festival, held annually on December 3, is a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, and is one of the Big Three Japanese Shrine Float Festivals along with the Gion Festival in Kyoto and Hida Takayama Festivals in Gifu Prefecture.

    Hodosan-jinja Shrine with its soothing atmosphere is blessed by the gracefully shaped Mt. Hodo and the beauty of its four seasons. The shrine buildings include the Honden (main sanctuary), Heiden (hall of offerings), and Haiden (hall of worship), constructed in the Gongen-zukuri style. There are many wooden carvings, including the “Nijushiko,” on the transoms. The kami enshrined here with beautiful statues are virtuous ones offering protection against fire and theft.

    "A Shinto shrine located in Kuroya, Chichibu City. The surrounding area is known for having produced ""nikiakagane"" in 708, a native form of copper which was presented to the then Empress, and this served the opportunity for changing Era name to Wado and casting Japan's first coinage, the Wadokaichin. This shrine was built in dedication to this coinage and even today it attracts worshippers seeking improved financial fortunes."

    Opened in 1997, the Saitama Museum of Rivers teaches visitors through a variety of workshops about the Arakawa River, Saitama’s most prominent waterway, as well as the relationship between rivers and people’s lives. Its Arakawa Wakuaku Land facility is open from the Spring Equinox until the mid-November. This extremely popular “water athletics” park lets visitors learn about the scientific properties of water, flood control, and water use first hand through various activities.

  • Icicles of Ashigakubo

    A 10 minute walks from Ashigakubo Station on the Seibu Chichibu Line. Together with the Icicles of Misotsuchi and the Onouchi Hyakkei Icicles, the Icicles of Ashigakubo are considered one of the three most spectacular icicle formations in Chichibuji area. Locals create the icicles by splashing water from a stream onto the side of a mountain, creating a giant, 30 meter tall icicle formation that makes for a stunning sight. Originally around 80 meters wide, today the icicle formation reaches up to 200 meters in width; this magical scene can also be viewed from the windows of passing trains. When in-season, the icicles are lit up with colorful lights from Friday to Sunday as well as on holidays. Handmade amazake sweet sake and black tea, a local specialty, are provided for free (excluding during illumination times).

    The center of sightseeing along the Chichibuji road, Roadside Station Chichibu is a popular road station that sells souvenirs unique to Chichibu and has restaurants where you can taste local cuisine. Chichibu no Mizu, a fountain with water sourced from an Arakawa River tributary (Urayama River) and groundwater from Mt. Buko, has safe and delicious water cleaned through slow sand filtration. Feel free to take some home.

    This theme park, flourishing with greenery, displays a variety of flowers throughout the year, including cherry blossoms, daffodils and azaleas. In the fall, the three-kilometer long boulevard of Ginkgo trees is a glorious site to see. The park is full of children friendly activities, such as the Skytrain that runs through the park, and the children’s playground obstacles including a tall observatory.

You can gaze at Mangantaki Falls from the three different outdoor baths. Try from a selection of more than 30 different local and seasonal dishes.

    This historical museum is in Yorii Town, Osato County, Saitama Prefecture. It serves as both a guidance center for the Hachigata Castle ruins and an activity center to educate visitors about local culture and history. There is an exhibition room dedicated to Hachigata Castle's history and construction, and there are special exhibition rooms on the themes of spring and autumn. The lecture hall can also be used for meetings and club activities except commercial purposes.

    Roadside Station Otaki Onsen is particularly known for offering private rooms to use after rising from their onsen baths for “day trip onsens.” There’s a recessed outdoor bath where you can look out at the close growing trees and a clear flowing stream from Arakawa River. It also hosts a direct sales corner and the Otaki Historical Museum.

    Chichibu Kegon Falls is about 600 meters deeper in from Suisenji Temple, the 34th stop of the Chichibu Kannon Pilgrimage. With a fall of over 10 meters, the abrupt fall raises white water in a refreshing spray. At the head of the falls is a statue of Fudo Myo-o with eyes wide open.

    This traditional river rafting tour is offered each year from around March 10 to early December. Customers can choose between three courses - from Oyahana Bridge to Iwadatami, from Iwadatami to Takasago Bridge, and one course traveling the full length from Oyahana Bridge to Takasago Bridge. No advance reservation is required and tours leave every five to 20 minutes. A special limited time tour is also offered in winter which has riders sit in a toasty-warm kotatsu (heated table with a blanket).

    A roadside station located in Mido, Higashichichibu Village, Chichibu County. Facilities include a farm fresh shop selling produce from nearby farms and local specialty products such as Japanese washi paper crafts; a restaurant serving handmade soba and udon noodles; and a food court where visitors can eat oyaki buns and char grilled with salt shioyaki style. There's also a washi paper workshop where visitors can watch washi being made and try making their own washi; another workshop where visitors can learn how to make soba noodles by hand; Japanese-style lodgings; The Furusato Bunka Denshukan building with a gallery, training facility, and exhibits on traditional industries; and a late Edo period washi papermaking factory which was dismantled and moved to the station's grounds.

    This temple is located in the Oaza Sueno area of Yorii-machi, Osato County. It was built in 1511, and in addition to being known as Gohyaku Rakanji Temple, it houses a thousand stone tablets of Kojin. There are also hiking courses on the grounds that overlook the rich nature of Chichibu.

    車で秩父へ向う途中に立寄りました。 少林寺は1511年創建の曹洞宗のお寺で、文殊菩薩が祀られている古刹ですが、五百羅漢で有名なお寺です。 本堂横の六地蔵の裏手の山道を上って行くと、道沿いに五百羅漢が現れます。 中には首がないものや破壊されたものもありますが、表情が豊かな石仏が並んでいて結構楽しめました。

    A wintersweet garden located on top of Mt. Hodo, a 497-meter-tall mountain in Nagatoro, Nagatoro Town, Chichibu County. Divided into east and west gardens, some 3,000 wintersweet plants spanning three varieties (soshin-robai, wa-robai and mangetsu-robai) are grown here. Visitors can enjoy the mountaintop view as well as the sight of the plants' flowers when they bloom from late December to late February.

    An area of fruit farms in Ashigakubo, Yokoze Town, Chichibu County. There are 13 farms in the area where visitors can pick strawberries from January through to the middle of May, plums in July to early August, and grapes from mid-August to mid-October.
