    The Kawaguchi branch of the Niigata Prefecture, Teradomari City-based Kakujo Gyorui fresh fish chain has set their sights on becoming Japan’s best fresh fish specialty store. It is famous for its preeminently fresh sashimi and sushi. It holds a boatload of fun events for the consumers, including a monthly raw tuna dissection sale, and 10% off sales on every fourth Wednesday of each month, excluding December.

One of their specialties is their Narazuke pickled vegetables which starts with carefully chosen vegetables and sake lees and then considerable time is taken with each step being hand done without rushing to ensure the richest scent and flavor. In addition to their Narazuke they also have a variety of other popular goods including sake lees, kasuzuke various fish pickled in sake lees, and their specialty Cheena, which is cream cheese mixed with Narazuke gourds, Narazuke cucumbers and grated ginger pickled in a secret blend of sake lees.

    A well-known Japanese confectioner famous for their Kenjo Meika Toki no Kane Monaka wafer cake. Their monaka fillings including adzuki red bean paste, a white kinton bean paste, and a citrus yuzu bean paste all of which are made with carefully selected domestically grown beans. In 1993 their Kenjo Meika Toki no Kane Monaka was presented to the Emperor and Empress of Japan and is marked by its gently sweet soft and elegant flavor.

    Limited space (just a few tables) and the shop is originally a takeaway cake shop. cakes are upscale priced but the taste is good. Sometimes feel like too much sweet.
