    A Japanese confectioner located on Sai-no-Kawara-dori Street in the Kusatsu Onsen Hot Spring Town in Kusatsu, Kusatsu Town, Agatsuma County. Their hallmark product is their Matsumura Manju, handmade daily by their skilled chefs and containing their homemade red bean paste wrapped with a thin dough containing brown sugar and then steamed. It is characterized by the smooth texture of their red bean paste with slight remnants of the whole grain. They also sell the Shio-Yokan (sweet beans jelly containing a little amount of salt) which sports a slight salty taste to set off the moderate sweetness.

    A cafe located in the Shima Onsen resort in Shima, Nakanojo Town. The cafe serves cappuccino with the onsen mark traced into the foam as well as a food menu of homemade sweets and their Kashiwaya curry made with two types of roux. They also sell Japanese goods ideal as souvenirs.

    We stopped by here after lunch while waiting to check-in at Kashiwaya Ryokan. The staff was very friendly and the cake we enjoyed was very delicious.

    This longstanding soba noodle restaurant is located along Yutaki-dori Street in the Kusatsu Onsen Hot Spring Town in Kusatsu, Kusatsu Town, Agatsuma County. It first opened in 1895. They serve soba noodles hand-made from stoneground buckwheat flour, freshly ground, made, and prepared. Their tempura made with locally grown Kuni maitake mushrooms are also very popular.

    This little restaurant has great soba and tempura. But there can be a waiting line to get in. Well worth the wait.

    Visitors can taste the seasonal cuisine of mainly local Gunma produce, such as wild vegetables and game at the Restaurant Ristorante Al Rododendro, located in the Watanuki Pension. Only course menus are available for both lunch and dinner, and visitors are welcome to make reservations in advance for a meal at the restaurant. Diners can chose from among four courses for lunch and three courses for dinner.

    This café is operated by “Shikanozoki Kiseki-no-Yu Tsuruya”. The Shimagawa River flows nearby and just down from the parking lot is the pot hole in the riverbed called “Ouketsu”, a National Natural Treasure. The café is surrounded by forest trees and has a spacious open terrace. In winter the café is a warmed by an open fire stove. The menu offers coffee, tea, herbal tea and apple juice made from locally grown apples, as well as homemade sweets and pizza toast etc.

    You’ll find this bagel shop in Kusatsu, Kusatsu Town. The bagels are made from a blend of “yumekaori” wheat flour from Northern Kanto and “haruyutaka blend” wheat flour from Hokkaido. There are also weekend-exclusive and seasonal items available, and every day five or six varieties are freshly baked on a rotating basis. They also sell bagel sandwiches, and there’s an eating area in the shop that offers sandwich and drink shops along with shakes, ice cream, and more.

    Great service, great food, great place! We love Lucky Bagel! We visited as a result of a recommendation from ou Airbnb host and we were berth happy we did!

Cafe Gute Reise is housed within the refurbished bath house of the oldest ryokan in Kusatsu, Nisshinkan, and from the window, views of the waterfalls in the yubatake (hot water field and spring source) can be seen.

The store in Yubatake is open until 21 :00 so visitors can enjoy evening in the hot spring town.

    湯畑の前にお店がありました。2種類のお饅頭がありましたが 白くてなかに2種類のあんが入っているのをお願いしたら すぐ食べるならとアツアツのをとすすめてくれました。美味しかったです。

    This direst sales outlet and restaurant is located along National Route 353 in Nakanojo Town, and was established to tell people how delicious Tamagoya’s eggs are. The famous Nakanojo Chockie baked confectionaries are made with eggs from affiliated farms located at the foot of Mt. Haruna and flour and milk produced in Gunma Prefecture. The outlet mainly sells its own 100% additive-free fresh confectionaries and baked confectionaries, as well as freshly laid eggs, local agricultural produce and crafts produced by affiliated companies. The restaurant’s Tamagoya Omelet Rice is very popular.

    今回は「チーズオムライス+アラビアータソース」と「アフォガード」をいただきました。トマトソースとタマゴはベストマッチですね、美味しいです。デザートの「アフォガード」も別売ですが、いただいちゃいました。美味しかったです。

    丁度、揚げたてだったので買ってみました。衣は、しっかりめでサクサクです。甘さも丁度いい感じです。食べ歩きに良いです。

    An onsen manju (hot spring bun) shop situated along the road leading from the Yubatake in the hot spring district in Kusatsu City to Sainokawara Park. The shop makes its own manju bun, and, in addition to the standard sweet red bean paste filling, the establishment also offers Japanese chestnut paste in a white bun as well as green pea paste in a matcha green tea bun. The shop always offers samples of steaming hot, fresh onsen manju bun for customers to try out front.

    草津に行った方なら、一度は見られたお店かもしれませんね。店の前を通るとおじさん達から試食を頼まれます。そして中に入ってお茶を提供されます。寒い日には助かりました。

They serve cuisine made with the quality local ingredients including Gin-Hikari rainbow trout and Joshu Beef as well as fresh highland vegetables, edible wild plants, and mushrooms. Enjoy their dishes including Gin-Hikari sashimi, deluxe stewed Joshu Beef offal, and Joshu Beef tagliata paired with shochu liquor and local sake hand-picked by the owner. For lunch they also serve hand-made udon noodles made with locally sourced Gunma flour.

    草津温泉の宿は食事がないので、近くのレストラン10店の紹介案内があり、湯畑に行く途中で1番近いこの居酒屋に行きました。店内は思った以上に広いです。 料理もいろいろ用意されていますが、イタリアン風のものがは日本酒でもおススメです。 酒(日本酒・焼酎・ワイン)の種類も豊富で料理も美味いです。最後うどんやお茶漬けもあります。価格も高くはなく、接客もいいです。

    A café on the ground floor of the Gokurakukan Ryokan founded in 1925 in Kusatsu Town. As well coffee, the cafe serves hotdogs and other food in the morning. Visitors can also take a dip in the private bath fed by its own private spring.

They serve 100% buckwheat soba noodles hand made from carefully selected domestic and home-grown stone-ground buckwheat. Their soba menu includes options such as their Kinoko-Zanmai (Full of Mushrooms), made with the local specialty maitake mushrooms, and their Vegetable Tempura Seiro, featuring seasonal organically grown vegetables. All dishes allow you to choose from either the stone-ground 100% buckwheat soba noodles or their hand-ground Hikigurumi soba noodles. You can also enjoy traditional Kaiseki multi course meals or tempura rice bowls served with both types of soba,and they offer additional a la carte service and desserts.

    草津温泉に行く途中に混んでるなと思って…帰り道に空いていたのでお邪魔しました。まるでおしゃれな喫茶店かと思うような店内から裏庭に通されました。小川が流れる森からはキジの鳴き声が聞こえてとても落ち着く場所でした。十割そばが出来上がるまでにわさびをすり下ろしたりとても楽しく過ごしました。蕎麦ものど越しがよくとてもおいしいです。大人の蕎麦屋という感じです。

They also sell yume-makura, the well known confection which symbolizes the legend surrounding the beginning of Shima Onsen, with two different fillings, walnut and yuzu.

Their signature product, yuagari karinto, includes 28 different varieties all sold in yukata patterned bags, from the very sweet brown sugar and honey karinto to spinach and wasabi, and shichimi (blend of spices) karinto. They also sell yuagari purin (crème caramel) and yuagari Joshu-gyuman (meat bun).

    女子受けしそうなかわいい色使いの包装です。小袋に入った色々な種類がありました。都会で見るような感じがしました。値段は300円台からありました。でも、温泉土産という感じではなかったので見ただけです。
