This temple of the Soto sect of Buddhism is said to be the model for the folk tale “Bunbuku Chagama” (“The Bewitched Tea Kettle”). You can see the bunbuku chagama—located in one room of the main hall where the main statue of the historical buddha is adored. The main path presents visitors with about 20 statues of raccoon dogs with a variety of expressions. Around the temple, you’ll find the Morinji Marsh—designated as a Prefectural Natural Monument and protected as a natural habitat of marsh flora—where you can see Lucolia lateralis fireflies during the rainy season and in summer.

You need to get off at Morinjimae station(oen stop from Tatebayashi, Tobu Line toward Tokyo) then walk 10 minutes to reach there. This temple is famous for Bunbukuchagama, folktale which 100% Japanese...

"This museum is located in Tatebayashi City, Gunma Prefecture, approximately 20 minutes' walk from the Tobu Isesaki Line's Tatara Station. It primarily collects works by artists such as François Pompon's ""L'Ours Blanc"" and Yoshio Fujimaki's ""Jonuma no Fuyu"" that help provide an understanding of modern contemporary art and progress made. Among the works collected here, there are exhibitions being held in four exhibition rooms on the theme of nature and humanity. There are also various events held in the auditorium and workshop rooms, and a restaurant and shop located inside the museum."

The drive to Tatebayashi was filled with a tinge of uncertainty. Originally, a friend and I decided to visit the museum for their latest featured exhibition on Egyptian art. But once we rounded the...

This shrine is located in Itakura Town. The three Gods worshipped here offer protection from calamity, directional misfortune and lightning. They are Honoikazuchi no Okami, Oikazuchi no Okami and Wakeikazuchi no Okami. It is the head Raiden shrine of the Kanto area. It is said that Prince Shotoku establishing a shrine in the small island of Inara Swamp, in the time of Empress Suiko, was how this Raiden Shrine came to be. The main shrine has a single pillar standing in the very center with doors that open either side. This mysterious construction can only be seen in seven places in the whole of Japan, so the main shrine was designated as an Important Cultural Property by the prefecture. The highlight of the shrine is the carving made by Tsunehachi Ishihara, the 10th generation maser of Jingoro Hidari. It is said to be the best architectural sculpture masterpiece of the Edo Period.

This Shinto shrine deifies Sugawara no Michizane. It's one of the five great Tenjin shrines of the Kanto area. People worshiped there for its protective powers around 1187 when Kiryu clan controlled the surrounding area, but it became Kiryu Tenmangu Shrine around 1350 when the god from Kyoto's Kitano Tenmangu Shrine was merged with it. Sugawara no Michizane is a god of scholarship, and as there are many schools in the area, the grounds fill with students who come to pray. It is also known as god of traffic safety and secure travel. The shrine is designated as a Gunma Prefecture Important Cultural Property.

The museum displays works collected by Eiji Okawa, a local of Kiryu City. Visitors can appreciate a variety of paintings, mainly consisting of works of art from the Meiji and Taisho periods, and including Eisaku Wada's landscape painting ""Matsushima Godaido"" and Takeji Fujishima's ""Mosha"". There are also a great number of Shunsuke Matsumoto's works and materials, which were the first works to be included in this collection. The museum aims to be a place where ""you can see the masterpieces you want to see, whenever you want to see them"", and as such, has sofas positioned in each of the exhibition rooms. It is designed so that visitors can take their time."

With an overall length of 210 meters it is one of the largest keyhole shaped tumulus in eastern Japan and has been designated as a National Historic Site. Due to the shape of an excavated Haniwa (hollow unglazed terracotta figure) it's believed that the tomb was constructed in the first half of the 5th century. As to who was buried in the tomb it's though that it could have been a former ruler of the Keno Domain but this is uncertain.

These castle ruins are located in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture, at an altitude of 239 meters on Mt. Kanayama. It has been selected as one of the top 100 famous castles in Japan. The lord of this castle was Iwamatsu Nitta, Kise, Yura and Odawara Hojo. It was built in 1469 and abandoned in 1590. Although it is one of the mountain castles that made use of the natural topography, it had stone walls and much of the castle was stone paved. The history of this castle overturned the theory that mountain castles in the Kanto region did not have typical stone walls. At the foot of the mountain, there is a guidance facility for the historical Kanayama castle ruins and also a Kanayama area castle exchange center.
