The Akagi-jinja Shrine is located at the top of Mt. Akagi. It has been known as a mountain where gods have resided since ancient times. Mt. Akagi is the main enshrined deity and Akagi Daimyojin is worshiped as the god of the lake. On the first Saturday of August, the Soke, or Grand Master, in charge of Ogasawara style Japanese horseback archery etiquette and his disciples hold a Japanese archery dedicatory match. At night, paper lanterns are set adrift in a ceremony called Toronagashi accompanied by a firework display and every year many tourists visit the festival. The Autumn Festival held on the national Sports day in October is also very popular.

Drove to the shrine which has free parking. The bridge to the shrine adds to the picture. It was a quiet day as it was partly misty. A must when in the area.

A symbol of Takasaki City, the Takasaki Byakui Daikannon is a giant reinforced concrete statue of the Buddhist bodhisattva Kannon (Guanyin) which was erected in 1936. The white gown the statue is wearing represents the pure heart that is needed to attain enlightenment. 41.8 meters tall and approximately six thousand tons in weight, the statue was the biggest of its kind in Asia when it was first constructed. The interior of the statue is lined with 20 figures of the Buddha and high priests; visitors can also climb up to the statue’s ninth floor (shoulder height). In recent years, the statue has come to be popularly known for providing luck in finding love and marriage, and on Valentine’s Day, the Red Thread Prayer Festival is held at the statute, referencing the invisible red thread of fate said to tie true lovers together.

I actually visited before cherry blossom in Gunma, but they have some early bloom species, and when taken with the statue, the effect is very breathtaking. Other than that, entrance to the temple is...

Founded in 1954, the self-designated “most nostalgic park in Japan” is an amusement park located in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture. The park runs fondly remembered rides of old, including a merry-go-round, a choo-choo train, and an airplane tower, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. "A day trip hot spring bathhouse located a two-minute walk from JR Maebashi Station. The bathhouse' vaunted private natural sodium chloride spring wells up from directly underneath the facility. This spring, also known as the ""Netsu no Yu,"" is adjusted so that the waters are just a little on the lukewarm side. The bathhouse sells sets which include a towel and robe, etc., making it easy to stop by here without needing to bring anything. In addition to an indoor bathing area, the bathhouse's bright, open, and airy outdoor bath has a view of a beautiful courtyard area for bathers to enjoy. Other facilities include a dry sauna and steam bath, as well as a bedrock bath back you can take a relaxing soak in with a reservation made at the front reception desk."
