This multifunctional dam was constructed across the Naramata River, a tributary of Tone River, the north of Yu no Koya Hot Spring, in Minakami Town, Tone County, Gunma Prefecture. Completed in 1989, at a height of 158 meters, this rock-fill dam is the third highest in Japan. The fresh green and autumn leaves are beautiful, and from the observation deck which also has a dam museum, visitors can enjoy a wide panorama of Okutone, looking out at Mt. Shibutsu and Mt. Kasagadake and the other mountains of Oze. Visitors can enjoy outdoor sports, such as canoeing and fishing at Lake Naramata, which was formed by the dam, and there are also many campsites in the area.

Gunma Areas

Gunma prefecture is synonymous with onsen. Natural hot spring water sources throughout the prefecture have given rise to a series of small onsen towns, each set among luscious mountains. At Kusatsu, Ikaho, and Minakami, traditional indoor and outdoor bathing experiences are served hand in hand with irresistible onsen-themed food, including steam-cooked eggs and custard pudding.
