This ropeway spanning Tanigawadake at the border of Gunma Prefecture and Niigata Prefecture connects the 746-meter altitude Doaiguchi Station with the Tenjindaira Station located at an altitude of 1,319 meters. There is also an observatory, and visitors can use a lift to reach Tenjin Toge Pass which is the start of a hiking route. The trekking course from Tenjin Toge follows the mountain ridge and takes about two and a half hours, and is a veritable treasure house for plants such as Hosobahinayukiso (a kind of Leontopodium Fairriei). The large 360-degree panoramic view from the top of the mountain affords spectacular vistas of the surrounding mountains, and is a very popular hiking course that is suitable even beginners.

This roadside station is located at the entrance of Takumi no Sato, on Gunma Nakanojo-yugawara Prefectural Route 53, which hosts a variety of historical agricultural experience facilities. There is an information center with guide maps of the village and also rental bicycles ideal for exploring. The restaurant’s Galettes, which are made in a similar way to crepes with 100% Minakami-produced buckwheat flour and topped with seasonal vegetables and mushrooms, are also very popular. The direct sales outlet sells seasonal produce such as freshly picked local vegetables. There are also Konjac-making experiences available for visitors to enjoy.

We went in January as a day trip from skiing in Minakami. Not everything was open, and we had young children. But we enjoyed the strawberry greenhouse (Ichigo no Ie), making bracelets (Iyashi no Ie...

Tamahara Plateau Numata City, Gunma Prefecture
Tambara Lavender Park is a facility that opens every year from late June to early September where a lavender field and more than 100 types of wonderful flowers can be seen. In the summer two lifts operate and visitors can see the Tambara groves and highlands as well as the lavender fields from above, as if walking on air. Also a lavender oil extraction demonstration and a craft experience are available for visitors. It is located 30 minutes from the Numata Interchange on the Kan-Etsu Expressway.

This is another romantic place of my summer trip in Japan. Very smelly of Lavender, everything purple color. The restaurant also located at hill, not much menu choice. I went there at the day of a...

This hot spring inn is located 10 minutes by car from Minakami Interchange. One of the charms of the inn is that it is located at the foot of Mt. Tanigawa, and each season has its own unique beauty, such as the remaining snow on the mountain contrasted with the cherry blossoms, green leaves and autumn leaves. There is the simple alkaline hot spring, which has continued to rise since the Edo Period, and dishes made with Gunma’s seasonal ingredients and local vegetables, served with warm hospitality. It is also famous as the inn associated with Osamu Dazai, and contains a miniature Osamu Dazai gallery. Visitors can view a reproduction of the Japanese-style room Dazai stayed in, along with hot spring tickets that he actually used, as well as books and photo albums and other valuable materials.

There are a variety of crops on the farm, and the season kicks off with pick-your own strawberries in December. Cherries, apples, grapes, mushrooms, and vegetables are all available depending on the season. Located in Minakami Town, Tone County, Gunma Prefecture, this glass theme park includes a hand-made glass workshop exhibiting Japan’s top-class techniques, a museum of glass art, and a retail shop. In the museum, you’ll find a variety of glass works—from ancient roman, to art nouveau, and works made by modern masters. In the workshop, you can take a free tour of how glass products are made. It is adjacent to a workshop for blown glass and stained glass, and to a restaurant that serves local beer.

I highly suggest googling this in advance to see if the glass styles are your taste. It is not bad at all and I agree with the others that the actual glass blowing activity is not well suited for...

This bathing facility is located in Tanigawa Onsenkyo Hot Spring Village. The facility is unusual in Japan, because it uses water from three different sources. The hot springs are simple alkaline spring water in the Fudo no Yu bath, calcium sodium sulphate chloride spring water in the Kajika no Yu bath, and simple spring water in the Hotaru no Yu bath. The large, open outdoor bath was built along the river, and visitors can enter the bath from the decking at the back of the building. There are also shops and rest facilities available inside the building.

It gets a bit crowded at peak times, but a lovely onsen in a great location. I would avoid it at 5 to 6pm though in the ski season as it gets pretty crowded.

This Zen temple of the Rinzai sect was opened in 1339 by Ujitoki Otomo of Kencho-ji Temple in Kamakura as head temple. Due to its location as the northernmost Kencho-ji Temple, it is also known as the North Gate of Kencho-ji. The temple grounds are home to the Kichijo-ji Hundred Flower Gardens, also known as the ""Temple of Flowers"", with flower beds of Mizubasho flowering in the Spring and Higanbana flowering in the Autumn. Also, in the temple's tea room, Seitaian, visitors can enjoy seasonal sweets with Matcha green tea."

After the broadcast of the popular television drama ""Sanada Maru"" on NHK, a portion of the ruins were restored in 2015 and in 2017 the castle was selected in a second edition to a list of Japan’s top 100 castles.
