"Lake Usui is a man-made lake that was created when the confluence of the Nakao River and the Usui River was dammed by the construction of the Sakamoto Dam; it is located around 10 minutes' drive from Yokokawa Station on the JR Shinetsu Line. The lake is surrounded by state-owned forest, and presents a beautiful appearance at any time of year; it is particularly spectacular in autumn, when the autumn foliage of the surrounding trees is reflected in the Lake. There is a roughly 1.2 kilometer long footpath around the lake, which takes approximately 20 minutes to walk round. Lake Usui is situated part-way along the ""Apt Road,"" a hiking path that follows the route of a disused railway line. The bright red bridge that crosses the Lake was constructed as an arched bridge."

    中山道より脇道のそれると湖畔の駐車場にたどり着く事出来ます。舗装された駐車場と整備されたトイレがあり、景色も良くドライブ中の休憩地としては最適だと思います。

Lake Okushima behind Shima Hot Springs was formed during the construction of a dam on the Shimakawa River. This man-made lake is four kilometers around in size and is also a popular spot for viewing the changing colors of the leaves in autumn. On the shore of the lake is a day bathing facility “Shima Koshiki no Yu” hot spring connected to the Shima Seseragi Archive Museum, and on the other side is Inatsutsumi Seseragi Park, where visitors can relax.

Nearby is the Azuma-cho Comprehensive Athletic Park where exercise facilities are maintained, as well as a walking path for hiking. The mountains of Ashio are reflected on the lake, making a peaceful atmosphere for hikers. A variety of trees, including cherry trees, planted nearby change the scenery in each season. Gunma Pref. Tonegunminakamimachi Fujiwara Yagizawa 6381-4
This multipurpose dam was constructed at the uppermost part of the Tone River and is located approximately 45 minutes from the Kan’etsu Expressway Minakami Interchange. This precious water source, also known as the Kanto Water Bottle, is a 131-meter vertical height concrete arch dam that was completed in 1967. Lake Okutone, which was formed with the completion of this dam has been selected as one of Top 100 Dam Lakes and is the largest in Okutone. The surrounding beech forest is reflected in the still lake water, and its beauty stands out especially well when the trees are green or turning red in the autumn. The lake is inaccessible in the winter from early December to early May.

  • Lake Suganuma
    Travel / Tourism
Gunma Prefecture Tone County Katashina village
This is a lake surrounded by virgin forests on the Gunma Prefecture side of Oze National Park in Katashina Village. The lake was formed by lava flow from Mt. Nikko-Shirane damming the lake. As the water depth increases the water color changes from emerald green to indigo and the water has one of the highest degrees of transparency in Japan. The vivid contrast of the green color of the trees from early summer to summer, and the reds and yellow hues of the leaves in autumn reflecting on the lake’s surface are spectacular. The lake is also known in Japan as one of the few at an altitude 1,731 meters. There is also a campsite by lake, and visitors can enjoy canoeing experiences as well.
  • Lake Fujiwara

This reservoir was created by the construction of the Fujiwara Dam on the upper reaches of the Tonegawa River. Completed in 1959, it's the oldest in the Tonegawa River system. The multipurpose dam generates electricity, regulates the flow of water downstream, and supplies water to the capital. In spring when the snow melts you can see water being released from the dam to adjust its flow. There is a large park at the lakeside featuring an aquatic plant garden and a pond with Asian skunk cabbage. Flatwater kayaking is available at the lakeside, too. The Lake DESCENTE Fujiwara Marathon is held in summer.
