    This old shop was founded as an oil shop during the Edo period, but then went on to manufacture miso. They use domestically-produced soy beans to make their “aburaden miso” —naturally fermented in a traditional wooden barrel, with no additives, to produce a rich, aromatic taste. At the dengaku miso shop in the corner, you can try konnyaku dengaku, tofu dengaku, and sato-imo dengaku. The five buildings, including a Meiji-period storehouse, are designated as National Tangible Cultural Properties, as well as a charming fireplace in the back.

    何とも趣のある歴史を感じさせる建物でした。味噌田楽盛り合わせ(3本セットで550円）をいただきました。炭で時間をかけて焼いています。味の異なる味噌が3本それぞれにつけられています。 建屋の中も歴史そのもの。太い梁が何本も見られ、大正あるいは明治時代（？）の電話もそのまま。囲炉裏も。 歴史のある雰囲気に身をおきながら、落ち着いたひとときを過ごしました。

    壬生町の役場付近は江戸時代の面影が残る風情にある建物も残っています。役場前の一ブロック隣の角を曲がると人気の和食処があります。土日のランチの時間帯は宴会が沢山入っており、席も埋まりがちです。是非にという方は予約を入れた方が良さそうです。カウンターでは店長自ら天ぷらを揚げ、若い店員に指示を出しています。ランチは海鮮も肉もメニューは豊富で、創作モノにも意欲的に取り組んているようですが、私はいつも天丼に...

    食事会で伺いました。 日本料理の中に干しぶどうの入ったお料理やジビエ鹿肉などが出てきて、少し驚きました。 ボリュームがたっぷりだった印象です。

    こちらも法事で何度か使用しました。結構大きな宴会場がありますので、そういったことにはうってつけですね。味はそこそこでしたが、まぁ他にいくところもないのでって選びました。

Most visits to Tochigi revolve around Nikko, a small city home to the spectacular, lavishly decorated Toshogu Shrine and Nikko National Park with its mountains, lakes, waterfalls, onsen, and wild monkeys.
