    At more than 330 years old, this sake brewery founded in 1673 is the oldest sake brewery in the prefecture. It has earned eleven Gold Awards in 20 years at the Japan Sake Awards, indicating its highly technical prowess. Their Kaika sake is made with clean and pure water selected as one of Japan's 100 best waters and rice planted and harvested by brewery employees on its own rice paddies. It is one of the three most famous sakes of Kanto.

    "Although officially founded in 1868, the name of this venerable confectionary shop can be found in documents from the late Edo period. Its most famous offering is its Koin Monaka. These monaka (bean jam-filled wafer cakes) feature a motif inspired by the ancient official seals (Koin) of the Ashikaga Clan. Other popular items include its Koin Senbei (rice crackers), Takauji Senbei and Takauji (Dorayaki, bean jam filled pancake) , the latter of which was inspired by the character of the Ashikaga Takauji, the first Ashikaga shogun. Another popular item is their Monaka Gokko, which allows you to enjoy the classic flavor of monaka in a casual ""make it yourself"" style."

The shop's popular Sanomaru Sweets Monaka wafer cakes, modeled after 2013 Yuru-Chara Grand Prix-winning local mascot character Sanomaru-kun, are stuffed with a hearty helping of a filling made by hand from Hokkaido azuki beans. The cute appearance of the wafer cakes is particularly popular with women and children. The Karasawayama dorayaki pancake sandwiches, baked one at a time and filled with a handmade Hokkaido Dainagon azuki bean filling, also make delightful little presents.

    This Japanese cafeteria is five minutes from the Sano-Tanuma Interchange on the Kita-Kanto Expressway. Using eggs from the adjoining Ishikawa Sanchi no Tamago egg farm market, the restaurant serves dishes such as tamago kake gohan egg over rice, thick tamago Japanese omelets, a karaage teishoku set meal, and a hamburg steak set meal. The restaurant's vaunted eggs fill the mouth with a rich, full bodied flavor. The chickens which produce the eggs are given an original feed blend made with an eight percent fish meal base, delicious natural spring water, and three secret flavor-enhancing ingredients. The restaurant also offers a full array of bento box meals, including a deep-fried assortment bento, shogayaki ginger pork bento, and mackerel cooked in miso bento.

The shop's signature and popular sakura anpan is made with koji malted rice and is stuffed with koshian smooth bean paste made from choice azuki beans. Customers rave that they are filling and substantial despite their small appearance. The shop's shokupan is simple and thus conversely allows no margin for error; baked daily, customers say that you can eat it every single day and never get tired of it.

    This studio makes Mamada himo, a traditional cord craft, born out of the area's abundant natural resources and ingenuity of its people, which has been designated an Oyama Brand product. In ancient times, the hand-woven cords were popularly used to decorate samurai warrior helmets and as sword straps attaching a sheath to one's belt. The studio sells original Mamada himo products and also offers activities in which participants can have fun making their own cords. Mamada himo are dyed with plant dyes, giving them subdued colors, and have an elegance and softness unlike anything made by a machine. When used as a decorative cord for holding a kimono sash in place, they do not loosen or lose their shape. Those participating in one of the studio's crafting activities can use plant dyed silk thread made exclusively from domestic silk cocoons to create their very own, one-of-a-kind cellphone strap.

    This Japanese confectionary shop is a five-minute walk from Ashikaga Park, a famous destination for viewing cherry and azalea blossoms. Operating out of an old-fashioned-looking establishment, the shop continues to devote itself to making yokan jelly primarily using azuki beans from Tokachi in Hokkaido. The sugar and kanten algae gelatin also used to make this yokan is carefully chosen to ensure it does not impact the flavor of the azuki beans, and customers love its simple yet deep flavor. The popular Soun Yokan is made according to an old-fashioned method in which the fresh jelly is poured into stainless steel trays to form it as it cools. This jelly has won the chief judge's award in the National Confectionary Exposition.

Standing just beyond the north exit of Tochigi Station, the shop sells traditional Japanese confections and seasonal Western-style confections. The shop's popular dango dumplings come in six varieties, including koshian smooth bean paste, tsubuan coarse bean paste, sweet soy sauce glaze, and young greens. The shop's chewy dumplings are beloved by locals of all ages, from children to senior citizens. The shop's Tatta Ichido milk buns are filled with a sweet bean paste made from azuki beans grown in Otofuke Town, Hokkaido and make delightful Tochigi souvenirs.

    間違えて1本(40分)早く着いてしまった。待ち合わせの友人が来るまでどこかで時間つぶしを・・・と思ったが栃木駅は本当に何もない。何もない中での唯一の商業施設がこちら。だんごか・・と思いつつ入ったら意外におせんべいが充実!スナックも見たことないのばかりでたくさん購入してしまった。みたらし団子好きの娘にはお団子を買ったのだが、こちらは残念ながら口にあわなかったようです。値段は手頃。

    旧・日光街道をランニングで旅した際に立ち寄りました。子供の頃、TVCMで見た小山ゆうえんちのユニークなCM。あの小山ゆうえんちの跡地がこんなシャレなショッピングモールに生まれ変わっていたのですね。それでもメリーゴーランドがあったりして当時を偲ばせるところが憎い演出です。

    旅行の帰り道、ランチで寄りました。 佐野ラーメンがあるので、ランチは佐野ラーメンとチャーハンのセットにしました。 暑いので那須で買うのをあきらめていた庫や(くらや)の「御用邸チーズケーキ」があったので、買いました(佐野からなら短い時間で帰れるので)。
