    落ち着いた雰囲気のお店です。陶器の他、センスの良い小物もありました。駐車場も併設されています。猛暑日に訪問しましたが、サービスで置いてくださっていた冷茶で生き返りました。

    A souvenir shop is in Mashiko Town, Haga County, Tochigi Prefecture. Located in the Mashiko ware shopping town there are a number of shops including galleries of famous masters' pottery, ceramic workshops where you can try your hand at throwing pots or ceramic glazing, souvenir shops, local produce shops, and restaurants. They also open a special pottery fair in spring and fall drawing people from great distances.

    "An indigo dyeing shop that has been in business since the late 1700s. Traditional indigo and vegetable dyeing techniques are said to have once accounted for 80% of the clothing worn by the public. Here those techniques have been handed down to the present day. Popularly known as ""Japan Blue,"" indigo and its traditional dyeing methods are highly regarded around the world. The 200-year-old thatched house epitomizes Mashiko's townscape, and the 72 indigo vats arrayed inside are a sight to see. Both the building and the vats are registered as prefectural Tangible Cultural Properties."

    お盆休み中だったので、実作業は見られませんでしたが、作業場を見させてもらえます。 次回は作業をしている様子を見にいきたいです。

In the gallery's natural atmosphere you'll find a wide range of products such as tableware, ceramics, and a variety of interior merchandise and other items that will fit into your daily life.     A clock tower is the symbol of this shop and gallery. It offers an array of unique Mashiko ware. It's the sister shop of Yamani Otsuka, another Mashiko ware dealer. The brightly lit store has everything from vessels you'd use daily to splendid works of art. It's an easily accessible place to browse artfully made pieces of traditional Mashiko ware. Works by Shoji Hamada, a living national treasure, Tatsuzo Shimaoka, and Ichiro Kimura are on display in the exhibition room. Mugs, rice bowls, teapots, and tea incense burners make ideal gifts.

    To the east of Hananosuisho Lake, Shibazakura Park, is one of the best-known sites for the scale of moss phlox in Japan. The 80,000-square-meter park has about 200,000 red, pink, purple, and white moss phlox plants. The roughly 2.4-hectare field of flowers is one of the largest on Japan's main island of Honshu. Every year from mid-April to early May, you can enjoy a patchwork of moss phlox in four different colors. Shibazakura Koryu Center is located in the park and has a farm stand selling local vegetables and a restaurant serving handmade soba noodles.

Most visits to Tochigi revolve around Nikko, a small city home to the spectacular, lavishly decorated Toshogu Shrine and Nikko National Park with its mountains, lakes, waterfalls, onsen, and wild monkeys.
