This vegetable garden sprawls on the 500-meter-high Nasu Highland. On its one-hectare grounds, the garden grows vegetables as well as blueberries, herbs, wheat, and more. The garden grows over 100 varieties of vegetables a year in the lush soil of nature-rich Nasu. Customers rave that the garden's seasonal produce is healthy and rich in flavor. The garden engages in farming which puts as little burden as possible on the natural environment, avoiding the use of agricultural chemicals and chemical fertilizers, and utilizing a homemade fertilizer primarily consisting of rice bran. The garden's unmanned vegetable stand, open from July until around November, sells a daily changing lineup of fresh picked, seasonal vegetables.

The Nagai district at the foot of the Takahara-yama Mountain range is one of the leading apple producing areas in the Kanto region. A family has been running this four-hectare apple orchard in its beautiful rural location for three generations. Their safe, reliably good apples are grown with organic fertilizers and limited use of pesticides. Normally, the leaves around the fruit are removed to improve its color, but on this orchard, they are allowed to grow. The nutrients produced by the leaves are converted to sugar and stored in the fruit, so apples with the leaves left on are known for being particularly sweet. They check the whole orchard daily and only offer fruit picked ripe from the tree.

Tochigi Areas

Most visits to Tochigi revolve around Nikko, a small city home to the spectacular, lavishly decorated Toshogu Shrine and Nikko National Park with its mountains, lakes, waterfalls, onsen, and wild monkeys. Neighboring Oku-Nikko is an extension of the fantastic scenery famous for its autumn leaves, while Tochigi’s capital, Utsunomiya, is the only place in the world where you can find oya stone beautifully exhibited in temples and the Oya History Museum.
