Tochigi Pref. Tochigishi Yamatochou 2-16

This exhibition facility located in Yamato-cho, Tochigi City makes use of the Tsukada family's storehouse. They were prominent lumber dealers during the Edo period (1603-1868), and this hall displays some of their important items. There is also an exhibit featuring a robotic dolls performing the tragic story about Uzuma River, and a robotic grandmother that tells stories while plays the shamisen (a three-stringed traditional Japanese musical instrument). The facility has a restaurant, too.

蔵の街の象徴といえる鯉のぼりの架かる川に沿って、この塚田歴史伝説館の壁が１００メートル以上続きます。入口でチケットを買った直後に入る部屋では、三味線語りをするおばあさん人形とそれを眺めるおじさんの人形がとてもリアルでした。これがインパクトのピークだった気がします。最後の人形劇はそれほど印象的ではありませんでした。とは言っても栃木市に来たらこちらを訪問するのはオプションだと思います。

The Tobiyama Historical Site Park is located in the area of Tobiyama Castle, a national historic site, which is the remains of the Hirayama Castle built by the Haga clan in the Kamakura period (1185-1333), and features restored dugout and pit buildings.

The Tochinoki Family Land is an amusement park for children located inside the Tochigi Sports Park. Entrance is free. The park is packed with attractions such as the thrilling rollercoaster designed to look like the E5 model Hayabusa Bullet Train, the sky ship, merry-go-round, and a big Ferris wheel. On weekends there are shows and street performers, and many more events.

Tochigi Kanuma-shi Mutsumicho 287-14

This art museum was founded in 1992 with the donation of some 2,000 works of art from Katsusaburo Hasegawa (1912-2001), a Kanuma City native who was a student of Kawakami Sumio. The museum was built with fukaiwa stone quarried in Kanuma. Its exterior, which resembles the western-style buildings of the Meiji period, was designed based on one of Kawakami's woodblock prints. Its interior was finished with generous amounts of wood. The museum rotates its exhibits four times per year, allowing visitors to explore a variety of different themes.

This mini theme park is located along Prefectural Route 68 in Takakuhei, Nasu Town. Visitors can hunt for treasure in two areas: the “Underground Cavern/Deep Sand” and “Rock Crystal Valley/Crystal River.” There are rock crystals, amethyst stones, and many other “power stones” available, and visitors are allowed to take as many as they wish in the time allotted. In addition, there’s a “rock splitting” activity as well as sweets such as “jewel ice cream and “jewel soda” available.
Ichikai Town Shibazakura Phlox Park

Located in Ichikai Town, Haga County, Tochigi Prefecture, this park was founded in 2006. It is famous for its carpet of moss pink phlox in the springtime. On its grounds are planted approximately 250,000 moss phlox plants, holding the title of the largest area in Honshu. Every year from mid-April to early May a carpet of red, pink, white and purple phlox glorious cover the park slopes with blooms. The view is splendid, not only from the walking paths but is also exquisite looking down from the observatory. The Phlox Festival is held during the peak blooming season.

Visitors at this leisure facility can enjoy watching monkeys act in plays, do street performances, and more. It is famous for having produced Taro and Jiro, a trainer-monkey pair that was once the star of many TV commercials. In addition to the exhibit areas, the facility also a number of attractions where visitors can play with the monkeys. The area where visitors can take a photo while holding baby Japanese macaques is gaining popularity.

This strawberry farm is operated by a company created through a collaboration between Kanuma City and JA. The farm grows Tochiotome strawberries, a strawberry cultivar that is a symbol of Tochigi, as well as Tochihime strawberries, which are exclusive to this farm. Strawberry picking requires a reservation and is limited to Tochiotome strawberries. Tochihime are available for purchase only.

This art museum can be found along Prefectural Route 247 in Sannai, Nikko City. Hoan Kusugi, an honorary resident of Nikko City, was a prolific painter produced western and Japanese paintings, manga, illustrations, and more. In addition to his works, the collection also contains works by Gizo Yoshizawa, Hiroyuki Saito, Naoto Nakamura, Shunya Akiyama, and others. In addition to planned exhibitions, there are performances and rakugo comedy shows as well.

There was less than 50 paintings here and you couldnt take photos! Not many of the paintings were by kasugi hoan.

This outdoor science museum is located in Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture. First opened in 1905, the museum preserves and displays the fossils that have been excavated on its grounds. The exhibit room displays a wide variety of fossils and minerals collected from around the world, mostly notably the many fossils produced locally in the Shiobara area. One of the museum's attractions is a corner where visitors can enjoy breaking open fossil rocks in order to look for leaf fossils.

塩原湖からは沢山の植物、昆虫、魚、カエルなどの化石が産出されています。その数々の化石がきれいに展示されているので興味を持つ子どもたちには最高の場所でしょう。実際に原石を割って化石探しの体験をすることが出来ます。ショップコーナーでは化石や鉱物が販売されています。あまり時間がなかったのでゆっくりできなかったのが残念でした。

A park in Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture with a wide lawn area that has a real rocket on display as well as a variety of play equipment. The large dinosaur slide is very popular with children. The park is also equipped with play facilities that require a fee for use including the Mysterious Forest, a train diorama, and a climbing area.

This park located in the center of Utsunomiya City. It numerous attractions include Utsunomiya Tower, which offers a sweeping view of the city, Adventure U playground, which features a large playground and go-kart track, a zoo, and more. Some 800 cherry blossoms trees and 700 azalea bushes have been planted in the park, making it a well-known destination for flower viewing. During the flower-viewing season, the park is illuminated with paper lanterns, Utsunomiya Tower is lit up, and vendors set up festival stalls in the park.

"This museum dedicated to fairy-themed art is located on the east side of the Nikko Futarasan-Jinja shrine. On the fifth floor of Utsunomiya Omotesando Square, the museum displays fairy-inspired ceramics and paintings. The beautiful stained-glass artwork near the entrance was designed by videogame and anime character designer Yoshitaka Amano. The museum was created in 2003 in order to ""make Utsunomiya a charming city which fosters dreams"" after prominent fairy researcher Kimie Imura offered to donate rare, historically valuable items concerning fairies. The adjoining museum shop sells notepads and clear files bearing Amano's stained-glass artwork design, and more."

This buggy activity facility is located in Yumoto, Nasu Town. Visitors six-years-old and older can enjoy activities on the circuit track. There’s also an “Adventure Cruise” where a staff member leads visitors on a ride down a forest road through the vast natural surroundings (you can ride together as well). There are also two-person buggies popular with couples as well as parents and their children.

Tochigi Nasukarasuyama-shi Chuo 2-6-8

This workshop makes Karasuyama washi, a type of Japanese washi paper whose history dates back to the Nara period. The workshop's German-inspired building features double-hung and dormer windows. Inside, the facility contains exhibits on the history and production of Karasuyama washi and also sells Karasuyama washi products. A product of the area's abundant natural resources, Karasuyama washi is officially supplied to the Imperial Household Agency to be used for the annual New Year's poetry reading. The workshop's hodomura Karasuyama washi paper is considered one of the best thick washi papers around and has been designated a National Intangible Cultural Property. The workshop's building was originally built as the Karasuyama Hospital in 1923. The building's pseudo-Western-style gabled roof has been designated a Heritage of Modernization by the city.

栃木県へのドライブ旅行の際、那須烏山市を訪問したので、こちらの「烏山和紙会館」へも行ってみました。グレーの立派な建物（元は病院だったようです）に入っており、展示内容も良く、ショッピングもできるようになっていました。

A park in Shimotsuke City, Tochigi Prefecture. With the large grounds bringing together a natural forest and cultural facilities, such as a folk museum, this spot blends together nature and history. With some 450 double-flowered cherry trees this park is famous for its blooms and always bustling during the spring. It's also the location of the April Tenpyo Flower Festival and the November Tenpyo Potato Stew Party where they make a stew in the largest pot in the North Kanto region, able to serve almost 3,000 people.

This theme park is located in Yumoto, Nasu Town, Nasu County. Visitors can catch fish such as masu salmon and char with rod and reel or with their bare hands in the grand natural setting of the Nasu Highlands. It is also possible to eat the fish you catch grilled with salt or deep-fried right there on the grounds. Visitors can also enjoy attractions such as go karts and activities such as making herbal soap.

ヤマメ、イワナが釣れるので、楽しめました。釣った分だけ食べないといけないのですが（持ち帰りもできますが）調理代は高いです。でも、子供が喜んでいるし、日常ではできない体験代と思えばなんのその。ゴーカートやバンジートランポリンなど釣り以外でも楽しめます。

Tochigi Areas

Most visits to Tochigi revolve around Nikko, a small city home to the spectacular, lavishly decorated Toshogu Shrine and Nikko National Park with its mountains, lakes, waterfalls, onsen, and wild monkeys. Neighboring Oku-Nikko is an extension of the fantastic scenery famous for its autumn leaves, while Tochigi’s capital, Utsunomiya, is the only place in the world where you can find oya stone beautifully exhibited in temples and the Oya History Museum.
