  • Mt. Yamizo Lookout Deck

    This observatory built to resemble a castle is on the summit of Mt. Yamizo, the highest peak in Ibaraki Prefecture. It's on the border between Ibaraki and Fukushima Prefectures. At 16.5 meters high, it offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains including the Okukuji, Nikko, Nasu, and Abukuma ranges.
  • Sotoono Shidare-zakura Cherry Blossom Tree

    A 300-plus year-old weeping cherry tree in Sotoono, Daigo City, Kuji County. It's said the tree was hand-planted by Tokugawa Mitsukuni, the second lord of the Mito domain. It has been designated as a Prefectural Natural Monument. The Sotoono Shidarezakura Festival is held when the tree is in bloom, along with a variety of events.

    "A plum grove located on Prefectural Route 37 in Suwa-cho, Hitachi City. Created by Tokugawa Nariaki – the 9th feudal lord of the Mito Domain – it has been a famous place for plum blossoms since the Edo period. It has about 300 plum trees, including one called the ""Rekkobai plum tree,"" said to have been planted by Nariaki himself. The best time to see them is when in bloom from late February to mid-March."

    A cedar tree on the grounds of Oiwa Shrine in Irishiken-cho, Hitachi City. The sacred three-trunked tree is about 50-meters tall and is said to be 500 years old. It's been designated a Prefectural Natural Monument. The shrine is surrounded by 70,000 square meters of national forest.

    A stretch of Prefectural Route 293 running from Hitachi Station to National Route 6. It's a well-known cherry blossom spot with about 120 Yoshino cherry trees planted along a kilometer of the road. It's been selected as one of Japan's top 100 cherry blossom viewing sites. The Hitachi Cherry Blossom Festival is held there every April, when they illuminate the trees at night, hold events, and more.
