  • Nakaminato Reverberatory Furnace Ruin

    Ibaraki Hitachinaka-shi Sakaecho 1-10
    A prefectural designated Historic Site in Shaka-machi, Hitachinaka City. It was built by Tokugawa Nariaki, the 9th head of the Mito Clan for the purpose of casting cannons. It was destroyed during the internal strife of the Tenguto Rebellion in 1864 but was restored in the early Showa period. It is also recognized as a Heritage of Industrial Modernization by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
  • Torazuka Burial Mound

    Ibaraki Hitachinaka-shi
    A burial mound and nationally designated Historic Site in Nakane Sashibu, Hitachinaka City. Thought to have been built around the beginning of the 7th century, the key-hole shaped tumulus is 56. 5 meters long. Excavations that began in 1973 revealed a colored mural in the stone chamber, as well as human remains, ancient burial accessories, and other artifacts. There is a conservation facility on-site, and the mural is open to the public twice a year in spring and autumn.

    This pottery shop is located along Gallery Road, in Kasama, Kasama City. It exhibits and sells Kasama-yaki pottery, which is a nationally designated traditional craft, made in the kilns of Shimoichige, also in Kasama City. The store has a variety of products, from small items such as chopstick rests to tableware and ceramics for lighting.

They sell Ibaraki specialty products and famous sweets, including Sweet Ume from the veteran dried plum dealer Yoshidaya and Mito-chan Natto fermented beans from Daruma Foods.

    This museum is located in 1-chome, Tokiwa-cho, Mito City. It can be found within the Tokiwa Shrine, which is where the second lord of the Mito Domain, Tokugawa Mitsukuni, and Nariaki, the ninth lord, are enshrined. The museum has exhibits of historical materials from the Edo period to the Meiji period relating to the Mito Domain, such as a draft manuscript called The Great History of Japan, which is a compilation of historical texts that was started by Mitsukuni, and Taikyoku, which is a cannon that was created by order of Nariaki.

    A cherry tree in Odo, Ibaraki Town, Higashiibaraki County. With a circumference of seven meters and a height of 15 meters, the tree has been designated as a National Natural Monument. It's over 500 years old. It is said that Tokugawa Mitsukuni – the second lord of the Mito Domain – was fond of it. It usually blooms around mid-April when many sightseers visit.

    "This art museum is located along OaraiKaigan-dori, in Oaraimachi-Isohamacho, Higashi-Ibaraki County. In addition to the permanent display of watercolor paintings by the businessman and intellectual, Hideo Shibusawa, there are also exhibitions for crafts and photographs held in the museum. Visitors can also enjoy “Fukeisoga, Landscape Window Painting,"" which looks like a landscape painting through the framed large window glass facing the sea. ."

    A museum adjacent to the Ibaraki Botanical Garden in To, Naka City. They have eight display rooms with exhibits that teach about the ecology of various plant life such as mushrooms, lacquer trees, wild vegetables, and bamboo, as well as people's relationship to them. Visitors learn through panel displays, video, model displays, and more. They hold “Dr. Mushroom's Mini Courses” four times a year with programs including mushroom observation and hands-on traditional charcoal making.

    This yacht harbor is located in Minowa, Hokota City. Membership rental of boats and yachts is possible from the marina, which faces onto Hinuma, the only brackish lake in the Kanto region. There is also a school where you can obtain a boat or water-skiing license.

    This iris garden was planted over fallow fields in Shirosato Town, Higashi Ibaraki County, Ibaraki Prefecture. The spacious grounds are filled with irises that were planted one by one starting in 1998. Now every June about 16,000 flowers of 70 species burst into beautiful bloom. An Iris Festival is held at peak season when visitors view the waterside scenery dyed blue and purple.

    企画展があって、シニアが無料なので嬉しくて訪れました。2つのフロアで常設展示、企画展は1フロアです。建物は古く、展示物も地元の歴史を感じました。この古さがたまらなくいいと思いました。決して広くはありませんが、内容は濃いです。地元の来館者が多いように思いました。水戸は学校が多く、向学心が旺盛な市民性なのでは・・・。外来者にとってはほっこりするひと時でした。

    水戸出張の滞在中に出掛けてみました。やはり以前同様に出張に訪れた際に、こちらの製菓工場に博物館が併設されていると聞き、一度見学したいと思っていたからです。 しかしながらあいにく訪問時は休館。予め確認しなかった自分の責任ですが残念でした。

    初詣で伺いました。車で行きましたが警備の方が何名かいらして誘導してくれてスムーズに駐車することができました。 初詣なので混んでるところが多いかと思いますが、こちらの神社は比較的すぐに参拝できるので穴場かと思います。
