    From Kairakuen, one of the three great gardens of Japan, head to the other side of Senba Lake to find this art museum which opened in October 1988. The museum’s collection of almost 4,000 pieces are displayed according to season and theme and contains works from local Ibaraki artists such as Yokoyama Taikan, Ogawa Usen, and Nakamura Tsune as well as western artists such as Monet and Renoir. On the south side of the grounds you will also find a reconstruction of Mito native Nakamura Tsune’s workshop with belongings and documents on display.

    A gallery primarily focusing on Kasama ware located on the Kasama Gallery Road a 20-minute walk from Kasama Station on the JR Mito Line. The gallery was opened in 2002 with the aim of being a space for exchange between artists in the country and around the world. Making use of a storehouse and gallery encircling a courtyard, charming wooden shelves scattered throughout the facility are covered with pottery. Harmonizing with the surrounding nature, the gallery makes use of natural lighting to show off its wares. In addition to displaying pieces by a selection of permanent artists, the facility also has a solo exhibition space whose contents changes every two weeks.

    笠間芸術の森公園内のとても広いエリアです。 散策には少し広すぎるかなといったところですが、丘の途中には芸術作品などもあり飽きない道です。

    A facility dedicated to presenting local charms located near Ibaraki Airport. Soranoeki Sol La La carries a wide variety of specialty products from the area around the city of Omitama. There’s a buffet-style restaurant serving dishes made with ingredients from Omitama as well as a shop selling local foodstuffs. The lactic acid food production plant on the facility’s grounds makes dairy products with milk from local farms and sells fresh yogurt. The Challenge Shop offers light meals created by local farmers filled with experimental, creative ideas; a different “shop” operates out of the space daily, providing a variety of menu options.

    A dog park with natural grass lawns boasting over 14,800 square meter grounds located a seven-minute drive from the Mito-minami interchange on the Kita-Kanto Expressway. The park's natural grass runs include an area called mega-dog-run with a climbing ramp and platform as well as areas for large, medium, and small breeds. In addition, the park has one of the largest dog pools in the Kanto region as well as Japan's first inclined dog pool.     A Japanese restaurant established in 1903 located a 20-minute walk from the north exit of Mito Station on the JR Joban Line. The restaurant serves monkfish, a delicate variety of seafood whose flavor can easily become off if not extremely fresh, paying great attention to the freshness and preparation methods used. Menu selections include monkfish nabe hotpot, vinegared monkfish, and monkfish sashimi, a particular rarity. The restaurant also serves gozen meals which include dishes like tempura made with natto fermented beans from Mito, and squid and natto; as well as traditional kaiseki course meals made with seasonal ingredients such as Hitachi beef and common orient clams from the Kashima Sea.

    水戸市ではあんこう鍋のお店がたくさん並んでいます。一度試せばいいと思ってここにしました。食べ方がよくわからなかったが、スタッフが変わりにやってくれるので、大丈夫です。アン肝が塊のまま食べれると期待していましたが、形のないものですぐに溶けてしまいました。ちょっと残念。 旅の思い出として食べてもいいですが、一度で十分という考え方もあります。安くはないよ。

    Nanatsudo Park located in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture is a municipal park which opened in 1999. It features an exclusive English-style landscaped garden which was designed by a British company and uses British building materials. In addition, various events are held here throughout the year such as live demonstrations of kintsuba flour dough sweet bean cakes being made by a seasoned pro. Lastly, the facility has free parking able to accommodate 250 vehicles and can be used as a rest area for visitors exploring the area by car."

    "A handmade udon noodle restaurant situated across the river west of the Ushibushi burial mounds. The restaurant operates out of a remodeled kominka (old Japanese-style house), giving it an elegant atmosphere. The owner, originally from Kagawa Prefecture, makes renowned, chewy udon noodles served piping hot fresh from the pot. The noodles are made with flour from a specially contracted farm in the nearby city of Hitachiomiya. The ""Momijiya Set"" meal, which includes an assortment of tempura and piping hot tofu, is particularly popular. The restaurant also offers tofu blancmange and sweet potato yokan jelly for dessert. The drink menu includes local sakes and shochues as well as seasonal beverages. This lively restaurant is so popular usually all seats are occupied during meal times."
