    A history museum adjoining Kijo Park (Tsuchiura Castle ruins) 10 minutes from the Tsuchiura-kita or Sakura-tsuchiura interchanges on the Joban Expressway. The first floor of the museum is dedicated to the culture of the Tsuchiya clan, the clan which once rules the area, and includes displays of swords and tea ceremony implements owned by the clan. The second floor looks at local life as it has been supported by Lake Kasumigaura and introduces the history and culture of Tsuchiura. The museum changes the contents of its exhibits on a seasonal basis and also holds special exhibitions. There's also an interactive learning space in the second-floor exhibition hall.

    A museum located a 10-minute drive from the Mito-Oarai interchange. The museum was built in 1929 by Count Mitsuaki Tanaka, an imperial loyalist in the closing days of the Edo period who later became Minister of the Imperial Household. The museum displays paintings and calligraphic works by imperial loyalists from the late Edo to the Meiji period as well as their forbearers donated by the count, as well as items gifted to the museum by the Imperial Household and other artifacts such as handicrafts connected to the local Oarai area. The museum's collection includes numerous valuable historical items which belonged to or were created by prominent figures, including calligraphy by the last shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu, Yoshida Shoin, Yamaoka Tesshu, and Saigo Takamori.

    A Shinto shrine situated on high ground commanding a view of Mt. Tsukuba, known as one of 100 Famous Japanese Mountains, and Lake Kasumigaura, noted as the second largest lake in Japan. Just when the shrine was founded is not clear, but shrine records state it was built on the command of ancient Emperor Shomu, indicating the long history of this holy site. The shrine holds the Ishioka Festival, known as one of the three largest festivals in the Kanto region, each year in September, and during this time the grounds bustle with visitors.

    A hall in Izura, Otsu-cho, Kitaibaraki City. It was designed and used as one of his base by Okakura Tenshin, a thinker who founded the Japan Art Institute and made important contributions to the development of modern Japanese art. Visitors enjoy the beautiful scenery of the natural setting with the hexagonal vermilion structure on a steep cliff above the sea. It's lit up at night.

    岡倉天心が過ごした家や六角堂を見学できます。六角堂、付近から眺める景色は美しく、飽きが来ない。 天心はここで美術について想いを巡らせていたと思うと感無量だ。 敷地内には展示室や実際に天心が過ごした家もあり全て回って約30〜40分程か。 全体的に穏やかな雰囲気に包まれており、 寺社仏閣並みに心が洗われる感じになるから不思議だ。 派手さは無いけど心に残る、そんな場所だ。

    About a seven-minute walk from Fukuhara Station on the JR Mito Line, Hitachinokuni Izumo Taisha is a shrine for worshipping mainly the Okuninushi, dedicated in 1992. There is the main hall where the presiding god sits in repose, as well as the Yakushin Shrine for medical needs and Ryujya Shrine for protection from water. The grounds include multiple cemeteries—even a pet cemetery—for religious and funeral ceremonies, as well as a restaurant serving Inaniwa udon, a glass studio— “Izumokan,” and an art gallery— “Sakurabayashi-kan.”

    "A science and industry public relations hall which presents the research and results of AIST, the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology. The entrance to the facility is located at the Namiki 2-Chome intersection along Gakuen Higashi Odori Avenue. Entry is free. With an advance reservation, visitors can also take part in a 40-minute guided tour. Inside, visitors can learn about robots designed to assist daily life activities and iPS cells, ""seeing,"" ""hearing,"" and ""touching"" the not-too distant future. The facility also teaches strange and amazing things about animals, the human body, and other otherwise common and familiar parts of the world around us. The facility's exhibits are designed to inspire an interest in science in children."

    An art museum located a three-minute walk from exit A2 of Tsukuba Station, the last stop on the Tsukuba Express line. Opened as an annex of the Museum of Modern Art, Ibaraki, the museum primarily holds solo and group exhibitions. Aiming to make it possible for people of all ages to come in contact with art in a variety of ways, the museum has a lecture room and video library in addition to its exhibition space. The museum also holds Saturday lectures conducted by curators in the prefecture in which participants can hear what they have learned through study and experience as well as their unique stories. In addition, there's a cafe and museum shop which carries exhibition catalogs.

    図書館と一緒の建物の中にある、美術館です。仕事が早く終わり、つくばエクスプレスに乗るため歩いていてみかけ、中に入ってみました。平日の午後だったので、ゆっくりと見ることができました。 わざわざ行くというよりも、図書館にいらっしゃった方が来ているという感じでした。

    Said to have been constructed in the second year of Emperor Yomei (587) by Horindokushukoji from China, this temple of the Toyama sect of Shingon Buddhism is located in Sakuragawa City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Many visitors come here every year seeking its blessing in regards to safe childbirth and child-raising. The main Kannon bodhisattva statue has been designated a National Important Cultural Property. The temple is famous for its cherry blossoms in spring and hydrangeas during the rainy season.

    Ibaraki Kasama-shi Shimoichige Art no Mura
    An old Japanese home located a 20-minute drive from the Iwama Interchange. The thatch roof home was once the residence of Rosanjin, an artist active from the Meiji through the Showa periods. The home was moved here from Kita-Kamakura in 1965. The interior of the home is kept in the same state it looked when Rosanjin lived here. Furniture created by the artist and other articles which belonged to him are also on display. As a special event, tea ceremonies are held in the Mukyoan teahouse designed by Rosanjin once to twice a year. Visitors can also enjoy matcha powdered green tea and sweets like anmitsu sweet beans and fruit in syrup while taking in flowering cherry and plum trees, fall foliage, and other seasonal scenery of a rock garden from the Shunpuan teahouse.

    A water science museum situated right in front of sprawling ocean located at the Marine Tower-minami Intersection a 20-minute walk from Oarai Station on the Oarai Kashima Line. The first floor of the museum looks at the world of the sea bottom, while the second floor focuses on the ocean surface and includes exhibits which you can touch and interact with. The museum also holds events every Saturday and Sunday introducing the wonders of the sea through crafting classes and experiments. In addition, there's a playground in the square in front of the museum for small children to play.

    This museum is located near Senba Park, a 10-minute drive from Mito Station. Along with belongings from Tokugawa Ieyasu other works of art related to the Mito-Tokugawa family, including swords and a war-fan decorated with a pine tree painting, and various historical records are stored. You can also experience a tea-ceremony in the Tokugetsutei tea house, a tea house which had deep ties to the Tokugawa family and which has been relocated here. With reservation you can enjoy the Nariaki Gozen meal on the garden terrace, a contemporary arrangement of a recipe from the Shoku Sai Roku book written by Tokugawa Nariaki, ninth head of the Mito-Tokugawa family.

    This school, built by the ninth lord of Mito Domain Tokugawa Nariaki in 1841, was once one of the largest domain-sponsored schools in the country. During the Battle of the Kodokan, an internal struggle which occurred in 1868, the majority of the building was destroyed in a fire, but portions of the original facility, including the front gate, Shizendo hall, and reception hall, as well as stone monuments, still stand today. In 2015, the location was designated a Japan Heritage Site by the Agency for Cultural Affairs as part of the Educational Heritage from Early-Modern Japan group of structures. Inside, there is a museum space where visitors can view historical materials and artefacts such as Chinese poetry by esteemed intellectual Yoshida Shoin; and a picture of Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the last shogun of Japan.

    A museum dedicated to preserving Yuki-tsumugi pongee for future generations located a 10-minute walk from the north exit of JR Yuki Station. The museum's grounds enclose several elegant kominka (old Japanese-style house) repurposed into an exhibition hall, shop, and museum hall. Handed down from generation to generation, Yuki-tsumugi was born of human ingenuity and cultivated by the natural abundance of the area. Enwrapped in the museum's quiet, calming atmosphere, visitors can experience the history and beauty of this craft, in addition to being able to purchase high quality silk Yuki-tsumugi goods which are perfect for gifts. There's also a gallery / cafe on the grounds housed in a remodeled old combined shop and house (Misegura) where visitors can enjoy a cup of tea while taking in a standing exhibit.

    A Tendai Buddhist temple located a 15-minute walk from Ryugasaki Station on the Kanto Railway Ryugasaki Line. The temple's principal object of worship is a standing figure of Amitabha. The two-tiered pagoda standing on the grounds is an extremely rare example of Muromachi period architecture whose date of construction precedes 1556 and has been designated a National Important Cultural Property. The temple holds a grand fire prevention festival on December 23 which looks beyond differences in sect and creed. During the festival, the ashes of a huge bonfire are scattered on the ground and a fire walking ceremony is held in which anyone can participate with an advance reservation.

    ネット検索で偶然知り、近くに居た為始めて訪れてみました。天台宗のお寺で境内に国指定重要文化財の多宝塔があります。室町後期の建築物で、この地方では殆ど類を見ない珍しい物だという事です。休日に訪れましたが誰も居なく静かでした。

    An art museum which preserves and displays works of art by artists connected to Chikusei City such as potter Itaya Hazan and painter Morita Shigeru. The museum is located on the third floor of the Chiiki Koryu Center Arterio down Prefectural Route 305 traveling from JR Shimodate Station. Distinguished by its glass exterior, visitors can also enjoy the sight of Mt. Tsukuba and the surrounding scenery from the building's lobby and sky promenade. In addition to its standing exhibition, the museum holds special exhibitions, workshops, artwork appreciation meets, and a full array of other events. Easily accessible and casual in atmosphere, the museum also serves as a community gathering space.

    下館駅から徒歩10分弱。しもだて地域交流センター「アルテリオ」の3階にある。 入館料は所蔵品展のみの場合は210円、訪館した時は企画展「関由香写真展 ねこうらら」が開催されており600円となっていた。展示室は4室あるが3室は企画展で使用されていたため所蔵品の展示はわずか。作品保護のためと思われるが、所蔵品展の照明は暗くかなり鑑賞しにくかった。

    This science museum, Japan's only one dedicated to nuclear power, is situated along National Route 245 an 18-minute drive from the Hitachi-minami Ota Interchange on the Joban Expressway. The museum contains exhibits which introduce the foundations behind atoms and nuclear energy. Visitors can directly look at, touch, and interact with the things they are learning about through exhibits such as a big screen theater showing computer generated videos and the world's largest cloud chamber, which makes it possible to see the natural radiation that is around us at all times. In addition, exhibits on incidents such as the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster and the Tokaimura nuclear accident convey safe ways of utilizing radiation to future generations.

    エネルギーとしての原子力に関しての展示は少ないです。一番おもしろかったのは空港のX線検査装置ですね。実物を操作できて、こんな風に映るのかと感心しきりでした。見学の所要時間としては1時間あれば十分ですね。

    A museum established in 1990 which presents the history and folk customs of Ryugasaki. The museum's exhibits include a mockup of the Tsukumai, a traditional event which has been designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property by Ibaraki Prefecture; videos; and information on folk art and lifestyles in the region from prehistory to the present day. The museum also holds a variety of educational events and activity programs like cloth weaving using a loom and dying fabrics with plant-based dyes.

    龍ヶ崎の歴史について展示されています。普通の資料館で大きくはありませんが、無料で気軽に入れるのが良い所です。
