In particular, the market carries one of the largest selections of dried sweet potatoes, a local specialty product, in the prefecture; in January, the peak season for dried sweet potatoes, the market is supplied by 150 dried sweet potato producers. Accordingly known as a mecca for dried sweet potato lovers, a not insignificant number of customers from across the prefecture and beyond make their way here seeking sweet potatoes. Other specialty products the market sells include top class, be-stemmed Vineberry strawberries and Odama tomatoes, as well as foods like dried sweet potato curry and He-no-Kappa dried sweet potato shochu liquor. The market carries an abundant selection of the tastes of Ibaraki.

    筑波山からの帰り道沿いにあった和菓子屋さん。かりんとう饅頭を買いました。黒糖饅頭を揚げたもので、やや大きめのカリントウの形をしています。熱々で美味しかったです。

The store is situated along National Route 118, 20 minutes from Fukuroda Falls in Hitachiomiya City. Funanatto, the company's flagship product, is sold in boat-shaped containers made from pine and hinoki cypress wood shaved as thin as paper. Made with ultra-small soybeans grown locally in Ibaraki's Okukuji region, Funanatto has a rich, deep flavor. In addition to standard Funanatto, the shop also sells Funanatto with glutinous wheat, Funanatto with barley, Kurobune natto made with small black soybeans, and Wappanatto made with ultra large soybeans and Kinzanji miso.

The shop's standard dorayaki consists of sweet adzuki beans from specially contracted farms mashed into a paste and enwrapped in two moist pancakes whose recipe is changed daily as appropriate to local humidity and temperature. Other dorayaki varieties include the highly popular chestnut dorayaki made with candied Japanese chestnuts, and the unusual and spicy curry dorayaki. The shop also sells a Kijo-no-matsu dorayaki made by image of pine trees in the Tsuchiura Castle and Hasu-dora dorayaki made with candied lotus seeds only offered here in Tsuchiura.

The shop's cafe au lait daifuku, made with cafe au lait flavored mochi rice cake wrapped around homemade sweet red bean paste and whipped cream, are also popular. Customers can enjoy the shop's confections and seasonal lunch dishes in the adjoining Japanese-style cafe area.

The traditional flavor of the shop's famous ""Omika Manju"" buns have long been a local favorite. The buns make no use of preservatives and are made with Hokkaido Tokachi adzuki strained bean past wrapped and steamed in a dough primarily made from rice flour. The ""Hagi Monaka"" toasty wafer cakes filled with firm, strained bean paste are also recommended. The shop's ""Tsuitachi (the first day) Kashi"" yokan jelly bars, only sold around the first of the month, are made with seasonal fruit and are so popular the shop is regularly flooded with reserve orders."

The shop's ""Meromero Kumacchi, limited to just 50 children a day, and its illustrated cookies available in a variety of designs are particularly popular. The shop also offers an abundant array of other choice sweets like tarts made with domestically grown strawberries and ""Queen"" decorated cakes perfect for a special day."

    9月初旬、レジ袋有料になって初めてお店へ。ビニール袋は有料、保冷材は30分まで無料、保冷袋持参お勧めと入口にありました。「30分で大丈夫ですか?」と念を押されました。大きな保冷剤、保冷袋も積んで準備万端してたので大丈夫でした。今年はお誕生日は果物と言ってたので、予定外のケーキに孫も大喜びでした。甘さ程よいケーキで美味しかったです。

    "A Japanese confectionary shop located on the Nagacho Shotengai shopping street in Oarai Town. The shop's popularity exploded after its ""Mitsu Dango,"" skewered triple dumplings which are a local Oarai favorite, were featured in a popular animated television series. Plump mitarashi-style flour dumplings covered with a special sauce and kinako toasted soybean flour, their novel texture combined with their familiar, old-fashioned flavor have long made them a favorite with locals. Customers can purchase a single skewer or sets of five or 10 skewers. Now that Oarai has become a mecca for anime fans, the shop also has anime-themed displays and sells merchandise as well."

    ランチがちょっと物足りなかったので、味の店 たかはしに寄りました。 ここは、5本300円のパックです。 自転車でなければパックで買うのですが一本でも売っているので二人で二本買いました。 暖かくてみたらしがほんと美味しいです。 上にきな粉をまぶしてあります。

    "A long-standing brewery established in 1823 located a five-minute walk from Hitachi-Konosu Station on the JR Suigun Line. The brewery makes the Kikusakari refined sake, shochu, wine, liqueurs, and other alcoholic beverages. The grounds enclose the brewery's daiginjo storehouse, boiler room, koji production room, and other brewing facilities. There's also a shop where visitors can taste and purchase an abundant variety of alcoholic beverages, merchandise, and products while enwrapped in the brewery's distinctive atmosphere. The adjoining Nakaya restaurant serves handmade soba noodles, sake, and Hitachino Nest Beer inside a Taisho period storehouse. The restaurant's ""Sake Soba,"" juwari soba noodles made with just 100% buckwheat flour and, unusually, sake, are particularly popular."
