    Misawaya, where visitors can eat handmade takato soba (leek soba), is famous as the place where their grated daikon radish soba is eaten using leeks instead of chopsticks. Since Masayuki Hoshina (Matsudaira) became lord of Aizu Domain in 1643, grated daikon radish soba has been called takato soba. As well as takato soba, visitors can also have kozuyu (a local soup) and tempura manju, traditional dishes usually served on auspicious occasions and ceremonial gatherings in Aizu.

    This local cuisine restaurant is located in Ouchi-juku, roughly 15 minutes by car from Yunokami-Onsen Station. The building still has its straw thatched roof, for an olden times sensation you can feel in your skin. They are careful to use 100% specially grown soba for their juwari soba. “Ten zarusoba” with freshly made soba and homemade vegetable tempura is popular. Also, you can purchase “shingoro” —local dish of Minami Aizu—in front too. The half-polished rice is stuck on a skewer, coated with 10-year miso and then cooked on a charcoal grill—perfect food for walking and eating.

Operating out of an old Japanese home with a thatched roof, here you can enjoy soba noodles made with care according to a labor-intensive process. The restaurant's authentic, handmade soba noodles are created with a homemade flour stone milled from locally grown buckwheat. The restaurant also sells yaki-dango dumplings broiled at the front of the shop.

    宿のおかみさんに、どこのお蕎麦がおいしいか尋ねたところ教えていただいたのが、ここ山本屋さん。胡桃蕎麦が絶品だから食べて行ってと。ここだけで食べられるこのそばは本当に素晴らしい。聞いたところ、ネギ蕎麦はもともと他のところの食べ方が大内宿に渡ってきたとのことでした。(そういうわけで、この店にはネギ蕎麦はないのかな?)

The restaurant operates out of an atmospheric old Japanese building over 400 years old with tatami mat seating, and diners here can enjoy negi soba (wedding soba), a local specialty dish in the Ouchi-juku area. The restaurant's soba noodles are made with Aizu-grown buckwheat, and people love their firm, chewy texture. The vegetables in the restaurant uses are also locally-grown.     Located within the Ouchi-Juku, Minamiaizu, Fukushima Prefecture flourished during the Edo period as a post town on an important road connecting Aizuwakamatsu City and Nikko Imaichi City. The thatched houses lining the main road still retain the same appearance they held during the Edo period, and in 1981 the area was designated as a National Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. This shop in the former post town offers traditional folk crafts and handmade soba. Popular items include their healthy wild vine and pomegranate juices as well as wild vine soft serve ice-cream, bettara- mochi dumplings, and more.

    This soba restaurant is located at the entrance to the Maezawa Magariya Village. The restaurant uses buckwheat flour produced by Aizu Kogen Tateiwa Nosan, its operating company. Everything from growing, drying, blending, and stone grinding the buckwheat to making the soba noodles is done in-house. The sauces the soba is served with are made by hand as well. Their namasoba (fresh soba noodles) made with 100% buckwheat flour is popular for its springiness and great throat feel. The restaurant only operates during the period that the Maezawa Magariya Village is open to visitors.

Their finely-cut tachisoba noodles are a tradition dating back to the restaurant's founding that is currently carried on by its seventh-generation owner. It, along with their Hatto buckwheat and rice pounded mochi, are beloved as delicacies of Hinoemata Village. Upon entering the restaurant, your eyes will be drawn to the tables made from a centuries-old Japanese horse chestnut tree. There is also a tatami-matted seating area, so customers can choose the seating option that best allows them to relax. The restaurant closes for winter from late November to late April.

    国道沿いのお店です。ランチメニューにはそそられるラーメンと唐揚げのセットなどというトラップメニューもありです。でもここは下郷まで来たのだから地元会津産の蕎麦で決まりでしょう。天ぷらに地元の山菜がしっかりありました。このてんぷらは少しニンニクの風味が。唐揚げと一緒に揚げているせいでしょう。椎茸は原木栽培だとわかるおいしさです。

    車で旅の移動中に通りがかり、何気なく入りました。大通りから駐車場の様なところを入った先にあるので、見つけにくい場所にあります。普通の民家でお蕎麦屋さんをやっているという感じで、食べる場所に生活感があります。その点で落ち着かないと感じる方もおられるかもしれません。お蕎麦は手打ちでとても美味しかったです。
