    A steam locomotive which operates on the JR Ban-etsu-West Line. The train is treated as a rapid-transit line with only reserved seating, and riders will need to purchase a reserved seat ticket to board. The locomotive was manufactured in 1946; due to its large drive wheels and slim boiler, it is popularly nicknamed Kifujin (Noble Lady). For a time, the locomotive was retired from active duty and put on display, but after many requests from local citizens, the train was restored to working order and put back into service in 1999.

    An old-fashioned liquor store located in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture. Affiliated with a long-standing sake brewery founded in 1794, the store sells local sakes made with Fukushima-grown rice and yeast. The shop carries a variety of sakes, such as sakes designed to be drunk during a meal characterized by their profound flavor and clean aftertaste. With an advance reservation, visitors can tour the sake brewery. The shop also always offers sake samples.

    An activity hall where you can make traditional folk crafts located in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture. The company operating the hall produces akabeko red ox bubbleheads, a local Aizu folk craft. In addition to akabeko, visitors can try painting Aizu Daruma dolls, Aizu kirie paper cutouts, and Aizu lacquerware. Large groups require an advance reservation but smaller groups such as families or individuals do not need a reservation.

    会津若松の名物人形赤ベゴの色塗りを体験出来ます。見本はありますが、好きに塗っても良いです。早くて30分程度で塗れます。

The station's foods made with kon'nyaku devil's tongue jelly such as the handmade Meibutsu Chigiri Kon'nyaku shredded jelly and kon'nyaku ice cream. The station also has a restaurant serving udon noodles, rice bowls, and soups made with local ingredients, and the station is a great place for drivers exploring the area to take a break.

    こじんまりとした道の駅です。 道の駅によくあるような農産物の販売はあまりありませんが、眺めがよく、コーヒーを美味しくいただきました。

    An old Japanese kura warehouse and estate located in Kitakata City, Fukushima Prefecture which once belonged to the Kai family of wealthy merchants. Notable for its black mortar, the estate is said to be the largest in the city. Visitors can view rare and valuable architectural examples and artifacts which belonged to the family, such as a 169 square meter tatami mat room and a folding screen decorated with gold leaf. The residence was designated a National Tangible Cultural Property in 2001.

    An observatory located in Bandai Town, Yama County, Fukushima Prefecture. The observatory is located along the Bandai Azuma Gold Line scenic driving road and has parking which can accommodate around 10 vehicles. From the observatory, you can see Lake Inawashiro as well as magnificent Mt. Bandai sprawling to the east. Note that the observatory only has parking and no toilets or other facilities.

An old fashioned air from this heyday still lingers here, and visitors to this popular tourist destination will find rows of lacquerware shops, restaurants, and sake breweries.

    A roadside station located in Kawamata Town, Date County, Fukushima Prefecture. Due to the town's famous silk products, the station is nicknamed Silk Pier. The station has a museum which introduces the history and culture of textiles in the area, and a store selling smoked Kawamata shamo chicken and other processed foods. You can also eat soft serve ice cream here made with mulberry powder and silk powder, local sweeteners produced in the area. In addition, the station has a facility where you can try using a hand loom and dying cloth which attracts many tourists.

    特別展でエリックカール展をやっていたので行きましたが、子ども連れだけでなく、さまざまな年齢の観客で混んでいました。夏にはディック・ブルーナ展もありました。特別展では時々絵本作家展をしているので、子ども連れの方にもいいと思います。

    A Shingon Buddhist temple located in Aizubange Town, Kawanuma County Fukushima Prefecture. The temple's principal object of worship is an 11 faced, thousand hand statue of Kannon nicknamed the Tachiki Kannon. It is believed that the hermitage was constructed by the Liang Chinese monk Seigan in 540. Inside the Kannon-do hall, there is a pillar that is said to grant your wish if you embrace it, and many people come here to do just that.

    こちらの見所は巨大な千手観音様です。幕の中でお姿を見ることになりますが、見上げても顔がはっきり見えないくらい大きい像です。また、文化財指定されている彫刻にしては珍しく手で触ることができます(足だけですが)。

In addition, there's a facility where you can paint your very own akabeko red ox bobblehead, a local Aizu folk craft, or learn how to make soba noodles by hand.

The museum also contains works depicting Japan's ancient capitals of Kyoto and Kamakura as well as natural scenes. There's also a video corner and museum shop.

    A Buddhist temple located in Yanaizu Town, Kawanuma County, Fukushima Prefecture. A Rinzai sect Myoshin-ji temple, the temple's principal object of worship is a statue of Gautama Buddha. Along with statues in Ibaraki Prefecture and Sendai Prefecture, this is considered one of Japan's Three Akasagarbha Bodhisattvas, and is believed to have been created by the great monk and artist Kobo Daishi. The temple sees large numbers of visitors during the New Year's holidays and also holds the Nanokado Hadaka Mairi, a naked festival to pray for happiness and good health, each year on January 7.

    The history of this working temple is fascinating. The stamp is one of my most elegant. A few steps up but well worth the climb

    A Japanese garden located in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture. The garden was originally created in the Muromachi period as part of a villa built by Ashina Morihisa. Oyaku-en means medicinal herb garden -the name is derived from the many medicinal plants which are grown in it. Visitors can enjoy the garden's seasonal scenery as well as a cup of medicinal herb tea. The garden was designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty as one of the best examples of an Edo period daimyo landscape garden.
