A five-minute drive from Shiroishi Station and a drive from the Shiroishi interchange. This umen noodle restaurant, situated inside the Shiroishi City Merchant House Museum, operates out of a distinctive remodeled late Meiji period home. Operated by the Shiroishi Umen Association, the restaurant serves a variety of umen noodle dishes and also sells local Shiroishi specialty products such as Japanese washi paper, kokeshi dolls, and of course umen noodles to take home. The restaurant is only open from 11:00 to 14:00, but it can also be reserved for events such as banquets and Buddhist memorial services outside these hours. Particularly recommended are the mabo umen noodles topped with mabo dofu, and the lunch special set which includes rice, a side dish, dessert, and more.

Every serving is made and boiled to order. Guests can enjoy their soba together with tempura made with local seasonal wild plants and vegetables.

A teashop attached to the Sato Seiji Seimen Noodle factory which has been making Umen noodles since they were first founded in 1883. In the eating space attached to the store you can taste traditional Umen noodles made the same way they were when the shop was founded. Their most popular menu item is their KenchinUmen dish made with Sendai miso. It's topped with an assortment of winter vegetables including burdock, carrots, nappa cabbage and Japanese parsley and is well known for its gentle homecooked flavor. Also popular is their GomadareUmen topped with their homemade black sesame sauce. The compact nine-centimeter size of their Umen noodle packs make it a fantastic Shiroishi souvenir.

An authentic Chinese restaurant that's been deeply beloved by locals ever since its 1971 opening. They offer a wide variety of dishes from popular standards to Shiroishi originals. Their popular sweet-and-sour pork stands out by not using even a single drop of vinegar. Many diners order this as a first dish due to the delicious flavor of the Ogawara Mochi Pork. Tou Ten Kaku is also the originator of the Ra-Umen dish which serves the Shiroishi specialty Umen noodles in a Chinese ramen style. The smooth noodles mesh perfectly with the Chinese style soup. With a wide variety of wines you can enjoy a new pairing of Chinese food and Wine.

A popular shop specializing in gyoza dumplings that sells over 4000 gyoza per day. They sell their White Gyoza, a larger rounder dumpling than the typical imagined gyoza shape. The White Gyoza originated in Noda City, Chiba Prefecture and is made with 100% Miyagi Prefecture Mochi-Pork and stands out for its crisp and fluffy finish and lack of garlic. The dumplings are packed with a filling made with fresh vegetables and Miyagi Prefecture Mochi-Pork and even just one dumpling can be a filling meal. The ample amount of vegetables means these gyoza are even popular with female customers. Another attractive point of the shop is how easy it is to drop in when traveling solo.

  • Kotobuki Sanshoku-monaka Honpo Natori Branch

    Miyagi Natori-shi Masuda Yanagida 254-3
The headquarters, factory, and shop for the famous traditional Sendai sweet, Sanshoku Monaka, which resembles three spread fans each containing a different sweet bean paste. In the shop facing out at National Route 4 they sell primarily their flagship Sanshoku Monaka along with a variety of other Japanese-style sweets. Sanshoku Monaka, with its catchphrase of Eating One is as Tasty as All Three, was originally sold as three separate products. It's said the modern product came from a customer who couldn't decide between the three and asked if they could have a Monaka packed with all three bean pastes. The red bean paste made with Hokkaido Tokachi red beans, white bean paste made with Hokkaido Tokachi large otebo beans, and either a sesame or matcha green tea bean paste makes for an exquisite harmony that makes a fantastic present.

OK Boo refers to pork, so dont expect a beef burger. I realized this after taking a bite - it tasted like mystery meat and had a whitish color. I had the cheeseburger - lots of sweet sauce. I did...
