This large market is located about 12 minutes on foot from Ishinomaki Station on the JR Senseki Line. Every day they offer fresh Ishinomaki caught seafood on the first floor, and visitors love their fresh picked vegetables and just-baked bread. They also sell local specialties and unique items, letting guests shop to their hearts' content in the spacious, high ceilinged store. The second floor is a food court where you can dine on dishes that showcase Ishinomaki seafood like their Kinkazan Rice Bowl heaped with fresh local toppings and their Anago Tempura Rice Bowl topped with an enormous portion of conger eel, crispy on the outside and tender within.

Mangoku no Sato is a manufacturing plant and outlet store for Miyagi Prefecture's famous Kamaboko (fish sausage). The entire production line is electrified, and visitors can observe the process. No reservations are necessary to walk down the observation hallway and look through the window to see Kamaboko being made. Visitors may also pay to try grilling and eating their own Sasa Kamaboko (a variety of Kamaboko made to resemble a leaf of broad-leafed bamboo) at a table with a tabletop grill. The onsite outlet store offers a full range of varieties of Kamaboko to buy as souvenirs.

The natural harbor in Onagawa a five minute walk from Onagawa Station on the JR Ishinomaki Line has been renowned since ancient times. Several boat lines connecting to outlying islands leave from here, including Ashi-jima Island, a breeding ground for black-tailed gulls and rhinoceros auklets designated a National Natural Monument; and Enoshima Island, the only inhabited island in the Enoshima Island Archipelago. A scheduled boat also visits Mt. Kinka, one of the Three Holy Sites of Oshu (Mutsu Province), every Sunday and on holidays. Mt. Kinka is a popular mystical power spot. The port boasts one of the greatest hauls of Pacific saury in the country and its waters are used to cultivate oysters and silver salmon. The fresh seafood brought in here is used in town restaurants to make local specialties such as the Onagawa donburi rice bowl.

Lying along the northeastern coast of Japan, Miyagi prefecture is home to lashings of natural parks, oysters, and hot springs. While the bustling city of Sendai offers some simple city entertainment, it’s the Matsushima islands that deserve the most attention, having boosted the prefecture’s reputation as one of Japan’s most scenic views.
