Homei Shijuhachi (“Cry of the Phoenix 48”) Falls is located along National Route 48 near the entrance to Sendai Highland. It consists of a chain of large and small waterfalls. The sound of the rushing whitewater rapids is said to sound like the cry of the legendary phoenix, which is how the falls got their name. The fresh greenery of summer and the red leaves of autumn provide a beautiful contrast to the falls.

Lying along the northeastern coast of Japan, Miyagi prefecture is home to lashings of natural parks, oysters, and hot springs. While the bustling city of Sendai offers some simple city entertainment, it’s the Matsushima islands that deserve the most attention, having boosted the prefecture’s reputation as one of Japan’s most scenic views.
