A Korean restaurant located a two minute walk from Morioka Station. The restaurant is located in the Jaran Building, named after the Korean Jeju Province name “Jaran,” meaning “hush little baby.” Floors one through three are spacious and fashionable, and it’s a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The cold noodles and yakiniku grilled meat set have been the restaurant’s most popular item since it opened, making it easy for diners to enjoy Morioka reimen cold noodles. The soup is sweet, spicy, and simple, while the noodles are slippery, chewy, and delicious. Other popular menu items include the bibimbap set and kalbi marinated barbecue rib meat.

Cold noodles come in a variety, Chinese, Korean and Japanese. On top of the Soba, Morioka offers something closer to the Korean kin, with a piece of fruit to spice it up. We were offered apple and...

Located in a corner of the Tokenji Temple of Morioka City, the Mitsuishi-jinja Shrine is a power spot said to be the origin of Iwate Prefecture’s name. It is effective for fertility, good relationships, and relief from illness. There is a legend that a god named “Mitsuishi-sama” expelled the raging Raseki demon from these lands, and made it promise never to do evil again as evidenced by its handprint left on a rock at this shrine. Every August, one of Tohoku’s big five festivals, the Sansa Odori (dance), is held here. This dance originated as a show of gratitude to this god, and the offering dance is performed within Mitsuishi-jinja Shrine’s precincts.

This shrine is located in the temple area of Morioka, where you can visit a few temples and shrine in one go. The area is quiet and very relaxing. The Hand Print of the Demon on a stone attracted...

A museum dedicated to Takuboku Ishikawa and Kenji Miyazawa. These two historic figures spent their youths in Morioka City during the Meiji and Taisho periods, and the museum presents materials relating to Morioka City during those times. The museum building, completed in 1910, was once the Dai Kuju Bank head office and is designated a National Important Cultural Property.

As we tourists may not be familiar with the Takuboku and Kenji, the exhibits are not of much interests to us. However the building itself is well maintained. It is good to take a few pictures.

This is a popular restaurant for Morioka jaja-men. The shop is said to have originated when the founder had eaten zhajiangmian in Manchuria before WWII, and tried to replicate the dish with Japanese ingredients. Enjoy the chewy, broad noodles garnished with meat stir-fried in miso, cucumber and green onion, and mix in garlic, ginger and chili oil. Finish off the meal as Zhidan soup by leaving behind one mouthful of noodles, then adding in noodle broth and a beaten egg.

"A brewery located a 10-minute walk from JR Kamimorioka Station. The brewery makes traditional, classic style beers using brewing equipment purchased from the south of Germany. The brewery took the top prize at the first ""Japanese Craft Beers We Want to Share with the World"" contest and also published a book on the journey from the brewery's foundation to winning this event. There's a room where visitors can see inside the brewery, and a brewery shop where you can taste fresh made local beer. The staple Classic has been brewed since the brewery was established and is characterized by its excellent balance between body and bitter flavor."

If you get a chance to visit the brewery, it is worth the stop just to enjoy a refreshing beer.. Very cordial and excellent brewers..
