    This Tendai sect temple enshrines a standing statue of Kannon in the Joboji Town area of Ninohe City, Iwate Prefecture. Famous for the hydrangeas that are best seen in the middle of June, the Ajisai Festival is held every July. In addition, it is the 33rd temple of the Oshu thirty-three holy places of Kannon Pilgrimage, and many worshippers come to this temple as the final place on their pilgrimages.

    二戸市の山間部にある古寺です。駐車場から石段をしばらく登った先に境内があります。訪問時は参拝者も少なく落ち着いたアトモスフィアに包まれていました。御朱印あります。

    This museum is located in Kamasuda, Hachimantai City. It houses a collection of materials about the culture and history of the old town, which grew up as a key transport center leading to Tsugaru and Akita. Its four permanent exhibitions are “Life and Culture in the Appikawa and Yoneshiro Watersheds,” “Lacquerware: Beauty in the Midst of Everyday Life,” “Carrying Past Ways of Life into the Present Day,” and “Literature, the Jomon Era, and Skiing.” Other exhibits include specially produced Appi lacquerware, everyday goods from the past, and items connected with Kojun, the 15th great high priest of Kan’eiji Temple Gokoku-in.

  • Ishigami no Oka Museum of Art

    Located about 30 minutes towards Ninohe on National Route 4 from the Tohoku Expressway’s Takizawa Interchange, it opened as the first outdoor sculpture museum in Iwate Prefecture, and is next to Roadside Station Ishigaminooka. You can enjoy outdoor exhibitions where you can see nature throughout the four seasons and sculptures, and special exhibitions centered on artists related to Iwate. There is a lavender garden in the outdoor exhibition hall, and about 20,000 plants are in full bloom from late June to early July, when lavender fair is also held. It also holds various workshops including one for dried flowers. In addition, it is certified as a “Koibito no Seichi” (Lover’s Sanctuary). (The outdoor exhibition hall will be closed until early summer of 2020 due to renovation work)

    A historic site and park located a five-minute drive south on National Route 4 traveling from the Ichinohe Interchange on the Tohoku Jukan Expressway Hachinohe Route. The park is maintained on the site of a mid-Jomon period settlement. The East Village contains over 200 pit dwellings, while graves have been found in the square in the Central Village. There are the remains of a building made from giant logs lashed together on the outskirts of the graveyard which is thought to have been connected to the graves. The Goshono Jomon Museum inside the park contains a building destroyed by a fire 4,000 years ago, an exhibit on the process involved in recreating a pit dwelling, and exhibits containing tools and other objects.

    Ganteya's memorial hall is located next to the self-help workshop "Shiki no Sato" and exhibits tools, articles, and various materials related to the founder, Shiki Komatsu. At the museum, visitors can learn about the history and taste of the local sweets that Shiki Komatsu learned to make in his apprenticeship in Aomori.

    "Located about 40 minutes via National Route 340 from the Hachinohe Expressway’s Kunohe Interchange, this community facility on the southern slope of the prefectural nature park Hiraniwa Kogen is along National Route 281 with the theme of ""interactions between trees, greenery and culture.” The wooden building is made mainly of local Japanese larch and Japanese red pine, and you can fully enjoy the goodness of wood with its characteristic structure. There is a store that sells Kuzumaki wine inside where you can sample all products for free. The adjoining Charcoal Science Museum has exhibits on the charcoal manufacturing process and futuristic depictions."

    This cultural facility complex is located in Niwatari, Ishikiridokoro, Ninohe City. In addition to a 132-seat hall, it has meeting rooms, culture rooms and Japanese-style rooms. In addition, it adjoins the “Shigeo Fukuda Design Museum” exhibiting works by the graphic designer Shigeo Fukuda, and the “Tanakadate Aikitsu Memorial Science Museum” honoring the Iwate-born physicist Prof. Tanakadate Aikitsu.

    This exhibition facility is located in Matsuoyoriki, Hachimantai City. It is attached to the Matsukawa Geothermal Power Plant, Japan's first commercial geothermal power plant, and displays images and panels that explain the mechanisms of geothermal power generation. The huge power plant cooling tower that can be seen from on-site is also impressive.

    This exhibition facility inside the forest park “Iwate Prefectural Forest” is located in Matsuoyoriki, Hachimantai City. It has exhibits related to forest trees, the relationship between forests and people, and birds that live in the forest. You can also interact directly with trees through playground equipment made with wood from the prefecture, a creative corner where you can experience making handicrafts, and various wooden toys. There is an observation room on the second floor of the facility that can also be used as a rest space.

    This museum is located in Kashiwadai2-Chome, Hachimantai City. It stores and exhibits historical materials related to the Matsuo Mine. The Matsuo Mine developed from the Meiji period (1868-1912) to around 1970 as the sulfur mine with the highest output in Asia, but also became famous for large-scale mining pollution.

    古びた施設で、訪問者も多くはない感じですが、明治時代の日本酒の自販機など面白い展示がありました。入館料も格安ですので訪問する価値はあると思います。

    二戸市の旧市街にあるジンジャ・シュラインです。石段を登った先に拝殿があります。境内はよく手入れがなされていました。御朱印あります。

    成田山安養寺は、九戸城松ノ丸跡のところにありました。九戸城深田堀跡のところに成田山安養寺専用の駐車場があり、駐車場から登って行くと寺の裏ある西国三十三観音霊場にでます。表参道の県道側から見ると石段の先に朱色の鮮やかな山門が見え、目を引きます。
