"A popular, romantic spot in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, a four-minute walk from Hanamaki Station. The 10-meter high, 80-meter long retaining wall features a fantastic picture created with special paint. It was inspired by the novel ""Night on the Galactic Railroad.” Only the painting's white outlines are visible during the daytime, and the full painting can only really be appreciated at night. When lit up in the darkness, it glows a mysterious and vivid blue and pink, creating a wonderful impression of the galaxy. It's illuminated from sunset to 10p.m.."

A northern Tohoku prefecture promising peace and quiet, Iwate is sparsely populated, replacing people with snow-capped mountains, history-rich sites, and fields of crops that are to thank for the region’s delicious local cuisine. Meander along the three-city Golden Route, where you’ll visit the grand Buddhist temples of Hiraizumi and the Tono folk villages before tasting the three famed noodle dishes of Morioka.
