Iwate Prefectural Takizawa Forest Park Birdwatching Nature Center

Iwate Takizawa-shi Sunakomi 1533-1

This forest is located in Sunakomi, Takizawa City. It is a natural forest of broad-leaved trees such as Japanese red pine that spreads over a hill with an altitude of about 250 meters, and has many mammals, insects and birds such as the narcissus flycatcher and great tit that inhabit it. In addition to renting out equipment that can be used for nature observations and holding nature-related exhibitions in the adjoining Nature Center, it also conducts nature observation events on the third Sunday of every month.

This is an experiential learning center located in the Hotel Appi Grand in the Appi Highland, Hachimantai City. Making use of the natural environment of the Appi Highland, it offers learning experiences in nature study, sports, food, agriculture and forestry, daily life skills, and culture. Visitors can buy memberships, which entitle them to privileges such as participation in special events.

This strawberry farm is located in Obuke, Hachimantai City. Strawberry picking is held from late December to around June. In addition, they sell flower seedlings directly and also homemade miso and jam, and hold container garden workshops. You can experience strawberry picking at a reduced price during the Saikaen Festival held in early June.

This blueberry farm is located in Nakanarisawa, Aisari-cho, Kitakami City. It cultivates about 600 trees from more than 20 varieties of blueberry, and holds blueberry picking usually from around the beginning of July. In addition to lunch menu items such as roast pork shoulder stewed in blueberries, the cafe in the restaurant offers specialty coffee roasted in-store, desserts and blueberry juice.

It cultivates strawberry varieties such as “OiC Berry,” “Beni Hoppe,” “Akihime” and “Koi Minori.” Besides being able to enjoy strawberry picking (reservation required) from late December to early June, they also sell strawberries at the direct sales store.
Kitakami River Pleasure Boat

This pleasure boat operates from the inlet near Kitakami Tenshochi Park located in Tachibana, Kitakami City. It runs during the “Kitakami-Tenshochi Sakura Festival” held from mid-April to early May every year. You can see the cherry blossoms at one of the three major cherry blossom spots in Michinoku, and carp streamers on the Kitakami River.

An exciting boat ride offered at in Tsukue, Tanohata Village, Shimohei County. Riders board the Sappa-sen, a small shore boat once used for sea urchin fishing, to enjoy a fun cruise. One of the cruise’s greatest attractions is the small boat’s ability to enter caverns and get right up to the jagged shore of the area, something normal pleasure boats cannot mimic. The sight of the cliffs of the Kitayamazaki Coast towering 200 meters directly overhead from this small vessel is truly stunning.

This is Iwate Prefecture’s only large-scale children’s center. It is a hands-on facility that allows children to play freely in nature, and experience many things through various games with friends and family. There are campgrounds, accommodation facilities, outdoor and indoor playgrounds in the vast grounds surrounded by beautiful beech forests. In the indoor area there are various places to play such as an adventure tower “Noppii” with various gimmicks, “Rakugaki-dori” (Scribble Street) where visitors can draw freely, and various workshops are held on weekends.

This tourism railway is located in Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture. It runs through the Sanriku Coast and is made up of the Kita-Rias and Minami-Rias lines. The Kita-Rias Line goes from Miyako Station in Miyako City to Kuji Station in Kuji City, and the Minami-Rias Line goes from Sakari Station in Ofunato City to Kamaishi Station in Kamaishi City. In addition, it is known for their kotatsu train, with horigotatsu (heated dug-out seating) installed in the train cars, that they operate during the winter.

とても静かな場所に位置しており、安比スキー場までは、車で5分くらいでした。山荘周辺は、コンビニなどのショップはない為、買出しに行ってからチェックインした方がいいと思います。部屋は普通の和室でした。山荘にもお風呂はありますが、大浴場に入りたいという方は、スキー場周辺にある日帰り入浴を利用するといいかと思います。
