    Iwate Oshu-shi Esashinakamachi
The Esashi region prospered thanks to water transport on the Kitakami River starting long ago. This walking street incorporates merchant storehouses and other features built during that period. It's at the Odori intersection on National Route 456 as you pass through Esashi, Oshu City heading towards the Hitokabe River. The street laid with flagstones and townscape with shops utilizing old warehouses will leave you feeling you've traveled back in time. A multitude of shops sell traditional local products such as egg noodles and Iwayado yokan (sweet bean paste jelly). It's a great spot to pick up some souvenirs of your trip.
  • Future City Galaxy Earth Railway Mural

    Iwate Hanamaki-shi Atagocho
"A popular, romantic spot in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, a four-minute walk from Hanamaki Station. The 10-meter high, 80-meter long retaining wall features a fantastic picture created with special paint. It was inspired by the novel ""Night on the Galactic Railroad.” Only the painting's white outlines are visible during the daytime, and the full painting can only really be appreciated at night. When lit up in the darkness, it glows a mysterious and vivid blue and pink, creating a wonderful impression of the galaxy. It's illuminated from sunset to 10p.m.."
  • A Lonesome Cherry Blossoms on the Koiwai Farm

    Iwate Pref. Iwategunshizukuishichou Maruyachi 36-1
A lonesame cherry blossoms (an Edo-higanzakura) on the Koiwai Farm—Japan’s largest private comprehensive farm—was planted as a “shade tree” to protect cows from the harsh sunlight of summer around 1910. It usually blooms during Golden Week. The contrast of cherry blossoms with lingering snow on Mt. Iwate is gorgeous.
